Yeah I looked at that thread too. I saw a few that were up there mainly the ones you posted; but the majority of users were nowhere near 80hours. If the average user could get 80+ then I'd be really impressed.

was the battery life bad on your vibrant like mine out of the box or was it better? thanks

Don't bother with task killers. They are unecessary on android and usually do more harm than good.

ROGERS YOU ARE SO GODDAMN LAME

So can anyone explain to me why newer phones last longer on standby on 3G rather than EDGE? That seems kind of counterintuitive to me.

ForbiddenX 09-08-2010 09:29 PM

^+1. I really want to try out the phone!

That's not true? All phones I've seen and used new and old last longer on 2G than 3G including my moto milestone and htc desire.

Graeme S 09-08-2010 10:12 PM

My bad, I must have been swapping around the numbers on the GSMarena reviews. Whups.

Its pretty nice. Nice and solid, played with them in all the at&t stores i happened to pass by. Also checked out the blackberry 9800 and it was surprisingly really solid in terms of build. And the interface was nice, little to no lag at all.

as i said in previous posts there are many power control widgets that allow you to turn features like wifi, data,bt,gps on/off. i also advise againsed using programs like auto task killer because they constantly "talk" to the phone using the cpu and keeping it from sleeping the android system will kill a task when it needs memory and those other programs are just gimmicks imho

i turn off wifi gps after im done with them anyway. not sure what else is draining the battery. usually the battery info says >65% goes to the display. I have mine on max with auto adjust. my first task manager/killer kinda fuked up the phone after a few days. I installed another one and it makes the phone last longer, but no where near 60 hours.

so does the system put the phone to sleep and kill aps after long periods? after a while i turn it on and it still says certain things are open in the phone's own 'task manager'

my display is set to 60% then it auto dims after some time of inactivity.

even with wifi/gps off the data network is stilll on and can drain the battery faster. on other android phones you could turn 3g off and use 2g to save battery. samsung removed the use 2g only option for some reason, so when im not using the phone i have the data(apn) off.

when you open something that requires more memory than currently available the android system will kill what it deems the most useless in order to free up the required memory. it does not actively kill tasks so it saves battery.

That's the problem right there. Max brightness with auto adjust. I usually keep mine nice and low with no auto adjust.

jeff19 09-10-2010 12:42 PM

What's the point of buying a phone with a good screen if it's gona be on low all time? I keep my brightness at minimum 50% all the time and charge once every two days. At least I get to enjoy some of that super amoled goodness lol

Do you guys charge daily or every couple days when the phone gets low on battery. And is either good or bad for the device?

as long as u dont let the battery completely drain, u should be fine. i charge once every two days and sometimes even daily depending how much i use the phone

I dunno. Just that low seems plenty bright enough for me.

J____ 09-10-2010 04:59 PM

alright i turned off autoadjust and put it at 45% brightness. see how that goes for a few days. pretty much 1 day i didnt use the phone all day and only made a few 10 min calls. when i got home after a 12 hour day it had 75% left. Today i played some games on the subway ride for 2 hours starting on a full charge and when i got home the phone died haha. It's definately the display draining the battery.

!MiKrofT 09-10-2010 05:32 PM

Well games also tax the processor so you're using the 2 of the most power hungry components on the phone at the same time.

anyone here with a samsung galaxy s wants to trade for a iphone4 32gb ? :)

chouchou 09-11-2010 06:21 AM

^biting the bullet already vansterdam? you just got it!

Canadian Rider 09-11-2010 08:11 AM

So I've had the galaxy S for about 20 days now. My phone normally lasts about 14 hours with lots of use as well as keeping wifi/data/autosync on. I've never killed it but it's normally around 15% by then. I was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with the battery or whatever. Well after reading this thread I decided to test the battery last night. I unplugged the phone at 6pm and turned off wifi/data and turned the brightness down to 30% (which still looks great unless in bright sunlight). Last night I used my phone to text multiple people for almost 3 hours straight, turned on data and surfed the net for about 10 mins plus played about 15 mins of games. By the time I went to bed at 1030pm my phone was at 78%. It is now 10am and the battery is still at 77%. I couldn't believe it. The standby battery usage on this phone is amazing with no data. So from now on I think I will adopt the strategy of turning on data only when I want to use it.
Also I am running Launcher Pro Plus for looks/widgets, Snowstorm weather widget (best I've found looks wise) and Switchpro for all my wifi/data etc toggle switches. I will post screen shots soon.

J____ 09-11-2010 08:26 AM

i need one of these:

i havent rooted mine so im stuck with the market stuff =(

it's also stupid how energizer can produce a 2500mah battery into a AA size yet phone manufactures cant produce more than 1600 into a much larger cell battery

Canadian Rider 09-11-2010 08:53 AM

All those addons I have are from the market. My galaxy is not rooted either. I'm too scared to do that.. It was easy on an iphone but I dunno about these.. The switchpro costs $1.29 and you can get launcher pro for free but need to spend $3 if you want the widgets with it. (which are worth it imo)

Canadian Rider 09-11-2010 08:59 AM

Launcher Pro (free) then 2.99usd if you wish to upgrade in app

Snowstorm (free)

SwitchPro (0.99usd)

Download the "Barcode Scanner" app of the market then scan these codes on your comp screen for a direct link to them in the market.

Just schedule your data and you'll be fine. I use an app called profiles. Juice defender I hear is also good.
