I don't see front-facing cameras as ever being the norm here in Canada. The only times I see it as being necessary is if you use it with ur bf/gf or with ur family and relatives if they are from afar, otherwise it would be inconvenient and pointless. Who wants to pick up a video call in the middle of the night when they are half-awake? or talk on video phone with a guy when they look like shit (for women)? for the guys out there, do you really need to see what ur buddy looks like when ur chatting with him? it's pretty gay if you ask me.

J____ 09-14-2010 07:35 PM

thats gay, the Tmobile Vibrant doesnt have a front camera... it looks like it's there but no way to access it, forum ppl said it's a sensor.

SumAznGuy 09-15-2010 07:07 AM

For the Iphone4, they have an app that uses the front camera and shows the image like it would in a mirror so girls can use their phone to check their makeup.

I've heard from a couple of people that the phones are on backorder with Bell now too.

Does anyone know for sure or if there is any Bestbuy's that have it in stock? I've got a $150 gift card that I can use.

SumAznGuy 09-15-2010 10:58 AM

D'oh. Placed an order for store pickup via Bestbuy's web page and they called back to say I have to sign a 3 year contract to get the phone.

!MiKrofT 09-15-2010 04:32 PM

Might be better to do it in person at FS maybe?

kuvg 09-15-2010 05:26 PM

ya i walked in and got it in person. They asked for a phone number and i gave one close to a bell phone number i know then walked out with the phone.

front facing camera are a hit with girls and egocentric men because of the ease to take self portrait. You won't believe how many people would upgrade just for that along. Another case of its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

My Samsung OmniaII from Korea (known as the AMOLED there) had a 'mirror' function which used the front-facing camera for exactly that purpose.

You're not going overbaord.

Tim Budong 09-16-2010 06:49 PM

I had a long long chat with Samsung today.
Mid october launch is whats planned with something big from my store

CP.AR 09-16-2010 07:04 PM

^ what store you work at :D I will come pay you a visit when the launch comes around

Gnomes 09-16-2010 07:28 PM

Speculations went from mid sept to mid October? That kinda sucks.
Here's some good news for people with bell vibrants. The Canadian Samsung facebook page: released a fix for the 3 button recovery mode for those who have it disabled.

Tim Budong 09-16-2010 09:08 PM

the delay is due to Rogers wanting the phone for Q4 as well as certain issues with the Rogers version having a bit of software related issues.

all i gotta say is
FUCK the iphone and how APPLE is really shafting all the dealers. Yes i get that the official retail stores need stock, but its getting stupid when they can receive 300-700 a day where as most small dealers have had no more than 30 iphones in the past few months.

With my knowledge of android and this beast of a phone from samsung, i really hope to push push and PUSh this amazing device with a very open source software out to the consumers

wow, i'm glad my phone that had JH2 preloaded has the 3 button working, otherwise sending it in back to Samsung and waiting 6 weeks is ridonculous

to the regular consumer, this is a big issue. be glad you went android over iOS4

Lomac 09-16-2010 09:54 PM

Mid-October? Fuck. I seriously don't think my K850 will last that long. I may just have to fork out the $200 to the Genius Bar for them to fix my out-of-warranty, water logged 3G in the interim. :(

Ah if only you worked for bell. Was with my sister at bell and they were telling her about how the amoled screen means that it is scratch resistant and bullet proof and that you may never know if a phone can save your life.

jeff19 09-16-2010 10:18 PM

samsung kies is horrible, cant connect with kies mode, which means can't update. spent hours trying to download usb drivers and trying diff ways to fix the problem. Tons of ppl are having this problem as well, part of samsung's horrible software services. If the only way i can update to froyo is through kies, im gonna b pissedd:mad:

darth, I mean no hate on you.

This whole issue has been pissing me off. Rogers is supposed to be a market leader.

But both Bell and Telus are able to launch flagship android models months in advance of Rogers/Captivate. What's going on here?

It seems like the original announcement was made just to stop myself and other angry customers flooding over to bell.
Sure, the rogers marketing department pulled off their magic for the short term and managed to keep my dollars for the next 2 years, but this kind of deceit and arrogance makes me hate on them as a company. What do you think the odds of my staying with them once my contract is done?

Basic business management teaches that 60%+ of a business' revenue comes from repeat customers, that percentage is much higher for a service oriented company like Rogers.

A possible scenario is that Rogers is getting a much larger margin on the iphones and their current line of obsolete hardware. If this is the only flashship android they decide to carry for the next 6-12 months, what's the rush for them? Most people waiting for a hardware upgrade are still under contract.
If they delay it more, Rogers can reap the rewards of the larger margin.
If they delay it more, Rogers can come up with more proprietary locks with more things to nickel and dime the "sheeple" on, or so they think.

It seems like they have glossed over the fact that the target audience for this phone aren't your average "sheeple".
If we were "sheeple", we would be flashing around an iphone.

The demographic for this phone is smart.
They torrent and use gmail.
They do not want to be tied to proprietary locked software.
You CAN'T nickel and dime this demographic.
They know that mobile providers in Canada already rip them off.
You should be settling for raking in the dollars of their monthly bills, not trying to piss them off even more.

I don't know about you guys.
But this is crap and the next chance that comes up, I'm leaving the Big Red fail.

!MiKrofT 09-17-2010 01:56 AM

I'm glad I just went ahead and ordered my HTC Desire directly from the Telus website and am now using it unlocked on Rogers instead of waiting for the captivate to come out.

As much as I agree with your post... don't take it out on DarthChilli - he just works for a store and knows just about as much as we do...

Don't hate the player, hate the game

Which store does he work at? I want to give him my business when Rogers comes out with that phone. I think it is great how he tells us what he knows unlike all the CSR's that I have delt with when I call in.

Basically, Rogers is fail when it comes to the marketing, I know this first hand. Take that handset protection campaign, its so misleading that its an issue and headache everytime someone walks into a store and requests this service.

Its also the technical side of things. For all the blackberry users out there, have you realized how fucking slow it is for big red to release a new firmware compared to say bell or telus. Yea its great they are "testing" the software, but thats why RIM has beta testers out there. Im sure the tech guys know that CRACKBERRY is a great resource for information. The end user feedback on anything software/hardware related will always be the best info.

As for Rogers and Android, I can't vouch for whats going on with the marketing department or even the tech side, but its stupid. I still don't see why bellus gets all the gold and we are left with shit like the Motorola Quench/Flipout where as Telus gets the milestone. Our best android device is sadly the X10 and the Acer.

What everyone does see is that Rogers pushes HARD for their services over the hardware, but Bellus and Telus needs that hardware push to launch their HSPA service.

Its shitty how customers get treated in the whole industry anyways and I try my best to make everyone happy. I also believe that Rogers has almost taken their "KING OF HSPA" attitude wayy above their heads and is taking every single one of their customers for granted.

The CSR people are retarded, even relations, nothing is linked. so as a word of advice for people calling into the CSR line

ASK FOR AN INTERACTION ID NUMBER This makes certain that you can trace who you have been dealing with.

As for me, you can PM me to find out where I work.

MarkyMark 09-17-2010 01:12 PM

lol Rogers announced the galaxy tab on redboard for the "coming months" and all it did was start a shit storm of comments about the captivate not even being out yet

WTF... I just went to 8 different stores looking for a Vibrant. Sold out everywhere (2 Bells, 2 Wireless Waves, 2 Sources, Best Buy and FS). Just when I give up on the Captivate thinking I'll just get the Vibrant, and I can't find one :-(

Anyone know where they have stock?
