Played with it in Seattle today.. nice big screen, really nice touch interface, fast. Pretty impressive phone!

Only downsides I see is slight cheapo plastic feel, and screen doesn't look as good as iPhone4 (resolution wise)

Guinness 07-31-2010 11:49 PM

^ Agree with the plastic feel, if only they make it stainless steel...

I pass on iP4 cos i dun wanna deal with iTune no more...

LiquidTurbo 08-01-2010 04:34 PM

iPhone4 or GalaxyS.. that's the dilemma I'm having right now.. can anyone help me out?

I've played with both and seems like I'd be quite happy with either. Are there any dealbreakers for either of them that I'm not seeing?

rk604 08-01-2010 05:17 PM

Iphone4 more apps...galaxy s has flash.

I picked flash over apps so I got a nexus one. Galaxy s has a better screen than a nexus one since the super amoled works better under the sun

I went with Galaxy S cos knowing that a bumper case on a ip4 will not be as nice anymore... and i aint going to get a phone nothing that there are issues...

also, like i said, im tired of using itune as the only means of getting my files on the phone...

Not sure if it's real or not but here you guys go.

Guinness 08-02-2010 08:53 PM

I called Bell and their rep said its going to be the 8GB model and its going for 499.99 w/o contract (phone still locked)... don't know if thats real or the rep told me something he shouldnt?

hongy 08-02-2010 09:03 PM

I'm tempted to switch over considering I missed out on getting the nexus one.

lol i guess u dont care about the 0.5 inch diff in screen size? the smaller screen for the iphone would def be a dealbreaker for me once ive played around with the galaxy s. in the end it prolly comes down to whether u like android and iOS more.

wahyinghung 08-03-2010 12:55 AM

The Galaxy S does not have flash for the camera.

FerrariEnzo 08-03-2010 01:05 AM

so the Galaxy S and the Vibrant are the exact phone, just that the Vibrant is compatible with Wind while the Galaxy S is for Robellus...

looks really nice.. checked it out on GSMarena

SkinnyPupp 08-03-2010 01:55 AM

I've had 3 cameras with LED flash, and haven't used it once. If it's dark enough to require LED flash, it's too dark to take phone pics, IMO.

JKam 08-03-2010 09:11 AM

^you don't use it as a flashlight?

!MiKrofT 08-03-2010 10:24 AM

The Captivate might feel less cheap. The battery cover is metal with fake CF weave on it.

+1

pics still turn out bad even with the 'flash' led turned on

CP.AR 08-03-2010 10:55 AM

why don't they make xenon flash anymore? IMO my N82's camera is still on par, if not better than most cameras on phones out there right now

I've had enough applies for a while - Galaxy S is for sure what I'm getting.
But the iPhone's screen is really something you have to see to believe - I played with one at Best Buy yesterday and damn. that's one handsome screen

hongy 08-03-2010 11:25 AM

I think it has to do with the phone size and battery size that that limits how many phones are capable of a xenon flash.

i believer the galazy screen is on par with the iphone screen. the only reason why it might like not as good is because iphone4 has a smaller screen and hence appear clearer

i dont think so, i think iphone screens can never be matched on another phone. i havent played with iphone4 yet, but no other screens can come close to the 3Gs, and i think it just improved with iphone4... its just so accurate

hey fellow apple fanboy. i know iphone is amazing and all but have you check out samsung's phones at all? samsung have always had top of line screen way back to the first color screen phones. Also the amoled screen on the galaxy is alot easier to see in the sun than iphone screen.

the problem i had before with samsung is that often times the screen and maybe the camera is the only thing going for its phone. It always running some one off OS or crappy ones like symbian. Now that its adopting android only good things can come.

Critics are giving good review for the galaxy, so even say its the fastest phone on the market right now even faster than iphon4

!MiKrofT 08-03-2010 03:52 PM

The iphone 4 screen is actually sharper unfortunately. The DPI is much higher. But the SuperAmoled screen is a gorgeous one for sure. If reports didn't say it felt cheap and plasticy I'd be all over it.

Galaxy S is a line, and Vibrant is a phone in the line. All four major carriers in the states have a Galaxy S. It was released in different form factors and housings. AT&T's Capitvate, Verizon's Facinate (looks basically the same as the Vibrant), Sprint's Epic 4G (Slide out keyboard), and T-Mobile's Vibrant, which is the Wind compatible one. For some reason Bell is also calling their Galaxy S the Vibrant.. Kinda makes it confusing hahah

The insides of all of them are basically the same, it's just that the Vibrant and the Captivate seem to have slight differences on the screens and cameras

The iPhone's screen is sharper due to the higher DPI/PPI, and Samsung even admits that it is 3-4% sharper (probably even higher than that though lol) but I guess the Galaxy S makes up for wider viewing angles and visibility in the sunlight.

Compare the phones side by side and honestly tell me which screen you prefer. Bigger isn't always better :D

SkinnyPupp 08-03-2010 08:02 PM

Looking at the screens with a naked eye, I bet you wouldn't even be able to tell that the iphone 4 one is much better. It has excellent pixel density that shows up great in microscopic pics. But from normal viewing distance, other screens look just as great. And if you are a big fan if super high contrast, Super AMOLED actually looks a bit better.

I only got to play with the iphone 4 for a short time though, and most of that was spent killing its reception by touching the corner :troll:

bobo6833 08-03-2010 10:11 PM

im planning to get the galaxy s, but i was wondering if this would work with telus?
Thanks!
