^ kies is retarded. wont recognize my device in kies mode at all, but will recognize in mass storage / pc connection mode... so are there
any updates for vibrant yet ? (assuming u ahve the bell vibrant).

wasabisashimi 09-30-2010 12:58 PM

is Captivate by rogers essentially the same as galaxy S by Bell?>

OriginalJC 09-30-2010 01:02 PM

Besides it looking different, and not having a front facing camera, yes they are essentially the same.

Seems to be different for everyone ...

Mine was easily fix by switching to USB port at the back of the computer instead of the front!

Yeah, it's messed. I am thinking maybe there is not enough power being supplied by the front.

But, as soon as I plug my phone to the back ports, it found my phone and started installing drivers on its own.

Kies is a giant piece of shit software. I hate it!

Gnomes 09-30-2010 02:32 PM

When froyo or updates get released to galaxy s (for unrooted users), I hope we can install it without through kies. Fricking piece of shit indeed. My laptop is my main PC. I only have 3 usb ports (+2 extended through PCI-E), all 3 ports did not work.

jeff19 09-30-2010 02:36 PM

^ i doubt samsung is gonna have any OTA updates. all their software support for previous fones were shit. makes me wish i still had my nexus one.....realli sucks considering the galaxy is superior in almost everyway, only being dragged down by the horrible software support...

Does anyone know of any place that has the Bellus Vibrant and willing to sell without a contract?

I emailed a bunch of guys on CL and the only that replied said he sold the phone.

I was lucky with my craiglist purchase. I had craiglist loaded up in one of my tabs on firefox. I refreshed it once an hour and one popped up. I quickly responded and got my phone.

I also am looking but either sold out or won't sell without a contract. I'm ready to go to the states for a weekend. Has anyone had problems or experiences buying phones in the US without a contract at like AT&T? Supposedly they have inventory for Galaxys unlike Canada.

i called the ATT store in Bellingham and asked them if I could buy the Captivate without contract. They said I needed to have an account with them otherwise I can't buy it? I am not sure if that is policy or not because it seems some people on other forums had no problems

I tried Best Buy (which is 50 bucks more but got them to PM ATT store)...had no problems buying without contract.

!MiKrofT 10-01-2010 08:29 PM

Sign up for contract with AT&T and get the phone cheap. Cancel the contract and pay the ECF. Someone here did that with their vibrant. It works out to be around the same price or cheaper.

Culverin 10-01-2010 11:06 PM

Scouring the rest of this thread, its seems I have found info on how to unlock the phone.

Woot, that let's me get my phone from ATT exclusive to being able to use with other carriers. Great.

But the second part of it is, how do I get my Captivate to connect to my Rogers account?
One of my friends mentioned that Sim Card standards have changed since my 4.5-year old Moto SLVR, they got smaller?

Do I just walk into Rogers and ask for a new Sim Card tied to my account?

Tim Budong 10-01-2010 11:23 PM

Your old sim will work fine, my sim on my nexusone is 10yrs old. I have 3g fine. You just gotta change the apns to rogers/fido settings and your set.

Although I have yet to prove this, newer sims have faster data speeds...but not so much.

Oh, maybe it's just the iphone that has a different sim slot or something.

As for getting a newer sim, why not, lets do it. hahahaha
Do I just go into my local rogers store and ask them for a new one?

Even with the bell store here on Willow+Broadway, they will allow you to buy the phone without contract as long as you have an active account with their SIM. This is where your friend steps in.

By the way, I like your old avatar pic better, darthchilli

Yes, AFAIK only the iphone 4 uses micro sims right now

On page 9 of this thread, there is a post with the APN settings but when I entered those things, I couldn't get onto 3g. I entered the APN settings from my old phone and now I can get onto 3g.

yeah no kidding when I bought my phone I would check every 15 minutes and STILL end up not being the first to email.

I lucked out in the end because I made a WTB post on craigslist to buy a $500 galaxy s. The night I sold my iphone, some guy emailed me 1 hr before I sold my iphone. So I met up with him half an hour after i sold my iphone (only spent half an hour phoneless! haha)

so I'd say try to make a WTB post

cctw 10-03-2010 01:28 AM

^lol...now that you have an android..time to download that killer craigslist app!!

notifies you immediately if there are any updates to any of your searches...i've been getting galaxy s updates for a while..pretty good app imo hahah

Oleophobic 10-03-2010 02:12 AM

just a question to those who have installed a lag fix...
First of all, I am on the stock rom, I've used the one click lag fix, am using launcher pro plus, and constantly have quadrant scores of 2200-2300.

However, I noticed at different times my phone will just lag or stall when opening something. For ex. once in a while when I open messages it might freeze up for 2-3 seconds before it opens. These are noticeable lags.

One lag I can reproduce almost all the time is when im on the home screen of launcher pro, and i hold my thumb on the screen to add something --> choose shortcuts --> applications..

there it takes me a whopping 14 seconds before the list of application populates! WTF

does anyone else have this issue?
any solutions?

Preemo 10-03-2010 09:57 AM

^ Launcher Pro released ver 0.8 a day ago or so. If you aren't using the latest version try that?
