get a older version that works?

Gazorcoop 10-04-2010 08:59 PM

I should have mentioned that I have two Galaxy S'. the one I am selling on RS is my own, whereas the one I am describing in this thread (Post #540) is regarding one i purchased just yesterday.

hope this clears things up

About the time fix stamp apps.
Do we have to leave the app on the whole time?

!MiKrofT 10-05-2010 12:54 PM

Run it once.. and enable it. You don't have to keep running it as it stays running automatically.

Culverin 10-05-2010 11:09 PM

P.S.
The inside of the Captivate smells like pina colada, but not at first.
Only after the battery has been running for a couple minutes.

Now that I've told you, when you get your phones, you're going to open up the back plate and give it a sniff.

Call my bluff. I dare ya

Do you have to unlock the phone again after an update?!

!MiKrofT 10-06-2010 10:41 AM

No. Firmware updates do not affect the unlock.

hirevtuner 10-06-2010 10:51 AM

the 2.1 asked for the unlock code again but was managed to unlock it
the 2.2 update never asked me again

Oleophobic 10-06-2010 05:56 PM

still a noob
how does one backup apps (like high scores etc.) in preparation to update to 2.2?
is it just through kies? I never open kies cuz it sucks lol

If they're free get them from the market again because when you restore apps from backup they may not autoupdate again. That being said you can backup apps using Astro or Estrongs file manager. They just copy the APK to a folder on the SD card. I don't suggest you use a backup program like titanium backup to restore apps after an OS update as it may cause stability issues.

Werd! LauncherPro Plus! I love it. Better than ADW Launcher

I did a search for it and I can only find the free one. I assume the free one and pay one is different?

The paid one allows you to use the LauncherPro widgets, and resize widgets etc. I'd say for the price, it's worth it. It's a great app.

You upgrade from within the app. I believe it's because the developer is in a country that doesn't allow him to take payment through the market?

Here you go :)

http://www.launcherpro.com/2010/07/1...ncherpro-plus/

Bought it and definitely won't go back to stock.

I've started doing some minor tweaks, just simply cranking up the animation speed (or showing none at all) makes the phone feel so much snappier.

Vinny G 10-07-2010 12:04 PM

Strongly considering this phone. Will it be good enough to use if don't want to bother with rooting and I just get launcher pro + get rid of that god awful touchwiz crap?

I've been reading through all the android threads here and it seems like people spend more time flashing roms and disabling functions (3g, screen brightness, cpu speeds, etc) than actually using their phone... am I naive in thinking I can get a good experience just using it out of the box?

cctw 10-07-2010 12:16 PM

^lets just say..i'm still on stock and i dont get even a full 24 hours of battery outta my phone...

which is why ppl are tweaking with it so much

OriginalJC 10-07-2010 12:27 PM

I love the screen, it is amazing. Love swype, and love that transferring/watching movies is a breeze.

But the reason why I sold my vibrant and went with an iphone 4, is the apps(and some minor things like iphone syncs better with my car etc)
I found when I wasn't watching a movie on the galaxy s, I was pretty bored :-P

I just wish the iphone 4 had a super amoled screen

  • Phone Speed
  • Screen Size
  • Screen Quality
  • Customizability
  • Replaceable Battery
  • Having a better-than-iphone product
  • Not paying money to arrogant apple
  • Support of Google
  • Gmail/Google Maps/Google Search integrations
That's my own person list of reasons why this phone is a clear winner.

Also, all the uber-nerds will be sporting and programming for Android on their own time. That means some pretty ridiculous apps.

I've got one that:
1. Lets me take a picture of something, then it tells me how far away it is
2. If I take another picture, it gives me the height.
I now own a freaking tricorder.

what app is that??

Culverin 10-07-2010 03:32 PM

The app is called "Smart Measure".

Distance
1. Hold phone at default height of 1.2 meters
2. Aim phone at base of object and click.
3. ???
4. Profit

Height
1. Hold phone at default height of 1.2 meters
2. Aim phone at base of object and click.
3. Aim phone at top of object and click.
4. ???
5. Profit

I'm almost certain it just uses simple trigonometry. I think it extracts the angle value from the accelerometer and uses the default height to do it's calcs.

Not uber-nerds... in fact - my 100 level Compsci course's final project is to compile a simple program for an android device.

Hakkaboy 10-08-2010 01:01 PM

does anyone know if there is a really quick fast way to hang up when u accidentally dial a contact?

i always seem to dial when i am looking through my contacts or history and when it starts to dial by accident, i would panic and press the HOME button instead of the END CALL on the screen. Of course, after you press the HOME button it takes a while before you can bring up the call screen and hang up.

so any ideas?
