get the captivate, my vibrant's internal sd card corrupted last week after trying some 2.2 rom, apparently many people have ran into this problem (read on xda forums). |
Oh dear. I hope you did a backup... |
2.2 rom is not officially out in canada yet. Since they just started the official roll out today. Was what you tried a custom rom? |

Waiting for Froyo 2.2 mod ver |
Just looking at the customization of the homescreen itself makes me want to throw my bb9700 against a wall. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761517 Can't wait for my captivate, looking for one after my 9700 gets sold However, doing some research, can some of the more experienced members chime in on the accuracy of these "cons" of the CAPTIVATE? The 3-button combo was not shipped "broken" I believe it was purposely taken out to prevent people from entering recovery. the GPS issue, is a big issue if you use it for everything (ie: using google to search for "nearby results", using facebook check-ins etc... It's really not that big of a deal if you use it just for say... GPS Navigation, since the only issue it really has is taking a good minute to get a lock |

Did some further research on no LED flash, and turns out the night time camera settings do the job well enough, guess there no " flashlight " for using the LED though other than turning the screen bright white. I read that once you go for one of the cognition/custom ROMs, you can't revert back to the stock Rogers ROMS which voids your warranty and such correct? The new roms ultimately just improve the operating system and its processes, but it doesn't necessarily affect whether you can root and then install apps etc right? |
well once u get root access, then it opens up a whole new can of worms I believe on the GalaxyS, you can unroot and revert to stock Rogers ROM thru ODIN3 |

I assume ROOT = Jailbreak? Fuck there's so much to read on android haha sorry for these seemingly obvious questions. |
Yeah i would say root is pretty much similar to jailbreak. I had my phone for 3 weeks now and there is so much customization i can do with this is almost endless. Right now i'm just checking out other people themes. There are a lot of good one out there. However i'm still a noob when it come to changing these kind of stuff. :) |
if you have ever used any form of Linux, getting root access is basically getting access to use the sudo command. With root you can basically go into the system folders, and change anything you want. |

but yea rooting is almost like jailbreaking..gives u almost full access to the device, hardware or software to allow modifications to system. of course it can be good or bad, one wrong move can brick the device. or allow even greater usability an app that gives almost full hardware control thru root would be setCPU..which is basically to control the processing speed of the CPU.. software wise..wifi tethering would be enabled on 2.1 devices via a phone which has been rooted. just some obvious examples of root |
Is anyone using a different messaging app? Also are there better keyboards that actually correct typing mistakes like the iPhone? Posted via RS Mobile |
Swype has been awesome so far P.S. I just flashed the newest 2.2 Build for the T-Mobile Vibrant.. AWESOME SAUCEEE!!!! |
you can try swiftkey for keyboard input. I'm using it and so far i'm liking it more than swype |

^ Nope, but as far as I'm concerned, it's extremely stable and everything works! BTW... does Rogers even HAVE a 3.5G network? After flashing the rom I'm getting an "H" (for HSDPA) rather than 3G on my status bar... data does seem to be faster too... so it isn't a glitch |
Yea "7.6mbps" is possible.. But its a known fact this speed is capped! Posted via RS Mobile |
$530 for a like new in box rogers samsung captivate worth it? |
Don't buy captivate..get desire or nexusone. Its what android was made to be! UnleSs someone can rid of all the samsung junk, then its good.. I think so far the kernals for both galaxys seem to be coming along very well! I forgot where I read this, but cyanogen isn't coming to ur phone.. On the flipside, if u get nexusone, then u will get the GINGERBREAD update this week! Posted via RS Mobile |

Going to do some more research then, I IS SO EXCITE~ |
its just that nexus one or even the desire is probably the phone with the most access to android, its very easy as well, especially on the nexus one in which this is why many on XDA praise the accessability for the phone EASIEST phone to root to date! |
