didnt knw about touchwiz. Did that now but it says device not supported by kies...

is it because im using tmo vibrant and kies is UK one? is there a US kies version?

CP.AR 11-16-2010 09:16 AM

The rom is the software, the Operating System
The Kernel is a set of instructions for how the OS interacts with the CPU, GPU.... basically all the hardware.

J____ 11-16-2010 10:40 AM

any good combos and instructions? i know how to 1 button root, but not load os or kernels lol

CP.AR 11-16-2010 11:10 AM

Just load the Obsidian ROM for now... requires no extra kernels. Just flash the rom in Clockwork MOD and you will be fine

Which version of Samsung Kies are you guys using?

If not Kies, how did you merge/purge you phone/sim contacts after getting them into gmail?

whats the voodoo version?

did u do a nandroid backup?

and the clockwork mod thats $5 right?

CP.AR 11-16-2010 07:24 PM

1. If you don't know what voodoo is and you are running completely stock right now, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

2. I did do a nandroid backup

3. Sorry my mistake... clockwork mod is the dev's name. The thing on the market you should be looking for is "ROM Manager" - there should be a free version and a paid version (free is more than enough for flashing)

thnx. just rooted. charging the phone up now to flash :D

have you tried this battery mod?

J____ 11-16-2010 11:31 PM

sweet got Obsidian working! easy as pie. Freaking Appbrain is useless didnt sync my old apps....

CP.AR 11-17-2010 12:15 AM

^ nice!
I didn't try the battery mod - I will wait until my winter break to do that. Hell, flashing a ROM was already a violation of my "when i have school, no hacking/modding stuff" rule.

Glad you got obsidian working! If you rely on GPS make sure you test it out, for some reason Macnut's GPS did not work for me but obsidian's did

J____ 11-17-2010 12:27 AM

gps seems to be working, inside it's seeing satellites but not locking on. I'll try it outside tomorrow.

i tried the battery mod... didnt work. kept on getting stuck at that lighting ball loading screen. had to reflash obsidian. The original file said it's from JFD stock? not sure what that meant but i flashed it anyway

r u using launcher pro or the OEM touchwiz? im on launcher and still seems a bit laggy at times. not like super smooth like some of the videos on youtube.

and only getting 1000 on quadrant. others at like 2400+

do u use titanium backup? does that just backup your apps?

Also arent flash sites supposed to work now? still cant open any flash websites =P

striderblade 11-17-2010 01:31 AM

i find that launcher pro lag a lot after a period of time. I switched back to touchwiz and everything is fine again. Even thought i like launcher pro a lot, but the lag is not worth it.

J____ 11-17-2010 10:56 AM

that sucks! does it reset if you reboot or restart it?

Samsung Canada
We’d like to acknowledge the tremendous interest in the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for Galaxy S series smartphones in Canada. We are working diligently to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada. Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for th...e Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available.

So for those who doesnt want to flash unoffically will have to wait till "mid-december" .. ..

striderblade 11-17-2010 03:33 PM

delay again. Sigh

^^^ by then gingerbread will be out. Fuk the official release, ive been wiating too long and now glad i rooted.

now the question, not that i would, but if i need to unroot, Do i have to reflash back to the stock rom before i unroot? or can i unroot with obsidian and it'll still be on obsidian haver it's unrooted?

Google Navigation.

I just watched the beta advertisement for Google Nav.

Since we're now out of Beta, I was expecting voice search to work, but the little icon isn't there. I'm fully up to date, any idea why it's missing?

works pretty well for me even on the factory 2.1. Press the search icon on the google widget and say "navigate to xxxx" and it'll bring up the thing for you to select to go somewhere. works great.

Tim Budong 11-19-2010 05:42 PM

So im sittin here playin around witht eh Galaxy Tab

so far..its got the same issues with the software as the Captivate and Vibrant has
Lag
GPS issues
