I'm sure there's an app for that.

If you have the i9000 or the i9000M you can install Darky's 9.3 ROM which has the call recording feature you are looking for.

I give up trying to update this fucking phone, i've downloaded kies, older versions of kies, kies mini, tried various tutorials on people who have had trouble connecting to kies, and everytime the phones screen says its connected, but the kies on my computer says "connecting to kies..." but never actually does. What a piece of shit program i'll never buy another samsung phone until they fix this program. Rant over

I can help you ahahah

ok first off do u have an AT&T captivate or a rogers Captivate?
what version of windows do u have? XP? Vista? or 7?

if it is AT&T first uninstall Kies (ALL VERSIONS) and only reinstall kies mini

then follow these instructions:

http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/...8&AT_ID=368733

if it is a rogers one use this one:

http://mobilesyrup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5486

if u are still having problems I can walk you through it over msn or something

J____ 03-16-2011 11:47 PM

just root the damn thing. Way better and much easier than that stupid kies bs

MarkyMark 03-17-2011 12:16 AM

I have the rogers captivate and im on windows vista. Ive followed the mobile syrup instructions but the same problem remains, the phone says connected but kies is stuck on "connecting the device"

neggo 03-19-2011 02:46 PM

WTF is wrong with my phone lately?

I'm getting no connection from my provider and it keeps on asking me for a SIM network unlock PIN.

Anyone ever have the same problem?

neggo 03-19-2011 11:05 PM

Friggin' hell, I'm about to go psycho because of the phone. It's been working fine and all of a sudden asks me for the SIM network unlock PIN.

To add to even more of my frustrations, the version of the Galaxy I got can't seem to boot into recovery mode which ultimately disallows me in trying to root and unlock the phone. Major pain in the ass. Totally pissing me off.

Are you rooted? Are you on a custom ROM or stock 2.2? If you visit the XDA forums your problem is probably already been mentioned there. Excuse my ignorance, but have you tried the 3 button combo (vol up/down + power)?

There should also be software to help you out on XDA. My suggestion is if anyone doesn't help you here, check there.

Also, if you're not on a custom rom, this would be a great chance to try it out, as it's just as easy to return back to stock. there's so much dev support for the SGS series phones that you probably will have no problems with anything.

neggo 03-20-2011 01:14 AM

I'm actually still on the 2.1

I've already tried rooting but there are some SGSs out there that have the three button combo disabled. I've been trying to find other ways to root it, but it's a bit hard finding solutions.

What I don't understand is why the phone was working well from the time I bought it, supposedly unlocked already, to screwing up so badly today? Frustrating as hell.

striderblade 03-20-2011 09:09 AM

Have you try using something call the ADB to help you boot into recovery?

neggo 03-20-2011 12:58 PM

Everything I do seems to not work, though I haven't tried ADB yet.

I've been extremely busy and I really can't invest much time into this. Does anyone know a good place that unlocks phones quickly?

Are you on a captivate? If so and if you really are serious in going the custom rom route, you can use this software which greatly reduces the work that you have to do (it can actually flash you back to full Rogers stock if you're on Rogers.):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944418

then you can use this one-click root software:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

I use them together when I flash custom ROMs. Usually takes 20 minutes assuming you backup your apps (using titanium backup, which requires root). If you're not on a captivate i'm sure if you navigate to the appropriate section in XDA you'll find an equivalent program for your SGS.

as for your question about unlocking phones- i'm not sure of any local places but there's an app in the market which supposedly works for most of the SGS family(i think it's called SGS Unlock).

neggo 03-30-2011 03:44 PM

Yeah, about a week ago I finally rooted with the superoneclick method and got sgs unlock pro. I tried several methods before that and even extracted the pin at one point and even that didn't work. My main concern was why the hell it asked for the pin when I bought it independent from a provider in Asia, supposedly unlocked.

Devs at xda are really something though. Without them I wouldnt have been able to find a solution.

^ unlocking my vibrant was the hardest part of the whole process for me. Samsung did some weird update to t-mobile galaxies that basically locked the phone to t-mobile. Even if you got the unlock code from t-mobile (which I did) you couldn't unlock the phone.

The developers on XDA made some sort of hack through scripts that allowed you to unlock it. It was kind of hard for noobs like me and I messsed up my IMEI a few times. Luckily it worked for me in the end though.

I don't know if I'll buy another Samsung in the future after that carrier lockdown process... looks like HTC is locking down their bootloaders too... good news is that Sony announced that they won't be locking down their bootloaders, so my next phone might just be a Sony!

This only applies to their factory unlocked phones. Their carrier-supplied phones will have locked bootloaders. But the new SE phones sure are prettttty :p
