oh yea, forgot that part. I wonder if it'll be harder to find a factory unlocked phone that's compatible with WIND... hopefully the newer phones will work on all frequencies like the N8

I don't think it'll be harder. It's usually a matter of getting it online.

You brought up a good point. I don't understand why phone manufacturers make two separate skus for the AWS/non-AWS phones instead of just putting all bands on the phone. I wonder what the cost really is to incorporate that chip.

Anyone use ODIN 1.7 to flash kernel files before?

I have downloaded .zip of kernel files and i've un-zipped them but I can't get ODIN to see/recognize the needed files. It just comes up blank.

Is there some driver I need to install before? Like SDK or something? My phone is currently in download mode, will taking it out of download mode via battery pull or whatever brick the phone? HALP!

From what I read here . A couple more months . I don't trust release dates since they usually miss the dot .

Alphamale 04-03-2011 10:43 PM

A fuck this noise. I'm an idiot.

I skipped the lines where I'm supposed to mount the files on the internal SD. FML.

m3thods 04-04-2011 09:07 AM

^ do you happen to be running a Captivate?

If so check this program out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944418

It seriously makes things so easy when it comes to flashing.

Alphamale 04-04-2011 12:41 PM

Hmm, i will use that next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

Anyone here running CM7-nightly?

Does your phone recognize the external SD? And does the external SD mount to your PC when you connect it through the phone?

Ah, n/m. It's a known bug. FML.

m3thods 04-05-2011 10:18 PM

IMO CM7 is only useful if you want to help report bugs. It's too buggy and has too many issues for me personally to have it on my phone every day. If I had 2 Captivates maybe I'd run both, but Serendipity is the best Captivate ROM in terms of combined speed/features/looks/battery life.

And given that 2.3 is becoming a closer reality (an i9000 leak is already flying the XDA forums), I'd happily wait on 2.2.1 until an "official" ROM to surface.

Are you running any specific kernel? I find my serendipity....isn't as responsive as CM7. A little bit laggy.

I just flashed over to paragon and Onix but there's no REALY noticeable difference, even with OC @ 1200mhz.

dasani604 04-10-2011 02:14 PM

There's nothing wrong with CM7. For something that's pre-beta, it's very stable for daily use. The CM7 experience is extremely smooth (for me, most smoothest ROM out of Firefly/Supernova/Phoenix/Serendipity/Cognition etc.) and OCing to 1.4GHz stable is no issue at all.

It all comes down to whether you like extreme theming over a stock AOSP experience and if you need your battery life to last 2 days. Like every ROM, it depends on personal preference.

Nope running default speedmod but keep in mind CM7 is based on 2.3.3, so it will be noticably faster than any of the froyo roms. You just give up a degree of stability imo.

has anybody tried the TV-out function on their phone yet?
I tried and tried... but seem to have no luck with the Nokia cable

Is anyone having wifi problems? Just recently my phone cant connect to any wifi connection. When it does, it only connects for 5 minutes then disconnects again and I have turn the wifi off then on again, then it reconnects.

Would this be a hardware or software issue?

hard to tell. are you running custom roms? that's really the only way to see if it's software/hardware (to switch to another ROM and see if wifi works there)

Ditto, I love my galaxy S screen but other than that the rest of the phone is kind of crappy. The Wireless share doesn't work properly and neither does the TV out.

Canadian Rider 05-01-2011 01:08 AM

I have a stock gt-i9000m bell phone and I was to flash a custom rom. I've spent the past 2 hours looking at different reviews/rom/install guides and I swear every install guide is different. Therefor it still scares the crap out of me. Does anyone have a link to a very detailed and UPDATED step by step guide on how to install a good stable fast rom on the i9000m?
Thanks.

!MiKrofT 05-01-2011 10:37 AM

All I did was flash speedmod kernel with Odin. Reboot to ClockwordMod Recovery and flash a zip'd rom.

Alatar 05-01-2011 10:42 AM

I can't get the stupid rooting to work. :(

!MiKrofT 05-01-2011 11:23 AM

I used super one click root.

Alatar 05-01-2011 12:00 PM

I tried that, didn't seem to work. Kept getting different errors when I tried different things. I'm trying the long-winded approach now, but just downloading and installing the necessary programs/development kits.

any insight on the errors? which SGS phone are you running? have you had a chance to visit XDA?

!MiKrofT 05-01-2011 12:17 PM

Hmm that's odd. I only installed the following: KIES, ADB, USB to Debugging mode, and then ran superoneclick.

Alatar 05-01-2011 12:25 PM

I've been searching the various write-ups, but I've got the captivate i-896 from Rogers. Appears like I'm not the only one with this issue either.

Edit: I think I've just found something that was VERY VERY useful in figuring out how to fix the super-one-click-root issue. I'll check and see if my phone's rooted now that I've tried this fix...

Edit #2: Confirmed fix, phone's now rooted. YAY!

Edit #3: I've installed a custom rom, just testing it out now. Went for Continuum5, we'll see if I stay with it or try something else.
