^ darky's is good on the vibrant as well. I tried every other rom and didn't really like any of them. Bionix was good but the updates seemed to have come to a halt, even on the tw site.

fuuu I flashed eugene's vanilla for the Vibrant (T-mobile). GPS worked but so inaccurate
the only good GPS I have gotten was from the stock Samsung and Team Whiskey's Bionix roms. well guess it's back to bionix lol

Anyone else have experience with their wifi disconnecting after a few minutes of connecting? | If you're on stock you should just flash another ROM to see if it's software related. That way you know for sure if it's hardware/software related.

Seems like a common issue with the captivate i896. The solution was actually relatively simple yet unpublished on the XDA forums. I forget the exact forum I found it on, though it was one of the multitude of android forums out there.
I've since looked at a few different ROMs and settled on Continuum5. Smooth as butter, NO lag, filesystem is FASSSSSST, GPS is deadly accurate and fast, etc. I'm running Launcher Pro instead of the three options for launchers that came with the mod. Honestly, Launcher Pro's the cleanest/nicest launcher I've found, so far. Just wish there were more widgets for it.

flashing is basically installing a custom OS on your phone. you can try a factory reset it's 50/50 chance of fixing your prob.

for the sake of your sanity, do read all the stickies/follow the directions for your first time before trying. you'll thank yourself at the end |

Continuum 5.1 stable, Mosaic I stable are both out for Captivate users, based on i9000 2.3.3 firmware. Running Mosaic I myself, since I can't stand green gingerbread theme colours. The gingerbread roms are buttery smooth compared to Froyo, that's for sure.

Should I wait a bit more while for gingerbread to become even more *stable* / less bugggy before switching or do you think is fine?

There seems to be a "charge drain" issue across all JVK/JVB-based roms where the battery will stop charging once full, then start depleting even while plugged in and displaying full charge. Not sure whether that's at kernel or rom level, but the devs are working on it.
However, both roms are, in my opinion, ready for daily use. Be sure to read the instructions when flashing.

^ interesting. I noticed that in my rom's too - I tried all the battery calibration techniques to fix that battery issue. I ended up just accepting the problem thinking it was my actual battery needing to be replaced.
Nice to know it's just a kernel issue that will most likely be fixed.

Continuum looks SOOO good but there are some items missing.. I'm running Firefly and couldn't be more stable. So I'm going to wait a few more months to see where it goes, and hopefully it'll get to the point where I just have to flash a zip in CWM. GR-12 has the most straight-forward directions, and even then it's still more work than loading up another Froyo rom.
When you say "buttery smooth"- could you care to elaborate? What froyo rom were you running prior to Continuum? My phone is pretty fast except for some instances which seem to be program-related.

What do you find missing in Continuum? I'm using it right now, and to be honest, I haven't really noticed anything lacking... yet.

My phone is pretty fast except for some instances which seem to be program-related. | Things that would make any froyo rom stutter (multiple market download/installs while browsing, for example), I've found don't nearly impact usability in Mosaic I. I was able to browse web pages and look through market while 4+ apps were downloading and installing, with nowhere near as much freezing/stuttering.
I was running Continuum V4 prior to GB.
Although GR-12 has the most straight-forward directions, it's pretty much the same across the board. They all tell you to flash stock GB JVB via Odin to get the latest GB bootloaders. Then Odin flash a re-oriented kernel (Either Talon or Reorient 1.1). Then, boot into Recovery mode and flash the rom of your choice.
It's really not that difficult or time-consuming to do so, and following GR-12's directions you can't go wrong. And for sure you won't be flashing back to a froyo rom, so it's definitely worth it.
Lastly, there is NO way to simply flash from a froyo rom to gingerbread, simply because the gingerbread roms require updating to the gingerbread bootloaders, something that CWM can't flash to. Quote:

There's an app for the old "lagfix" that converts /data from RFS to EXT4, the Voodoo fixes are cooked into the roms, I think Continuum 5 is OC/UV friendly (if not I'm sure Cezar's on it). These roms are ready for daily use. Even the charge drain problem isn't that big a deal, it's intermittent (I've only had it occur once, and wasn't able to replicate it).

I've had the charge drain issue happen twice since I flashed it on Sunday, but the better battery performance, OC/UV ability definitely helps in terms of battery longevity.
As far as lag, there is literally none with Continuum 5. Haven't had any issues with BLN, either.

Continuum v5.3 is coming out soon too. Tempted to try out Continuum v5 again since shoman94's porting themes for it and keeping them up to date.

CM7
- OS 2.3.4
- 1.5Ghz stable, now pushing for 1.55
- everything buttery smooth
- android universal theme chooser
- AOSP
- battery lasts longer than a day with UVing (is it that hard to charge once a day?)
Done. It's my personal preference because it isn't a rehashed Samsung ROM like all others and it fits my tastes. They're trying to create an experience on the captivate as how it should have been without Samsung screwing up.

So I finally waited long enough for GB on my captivate.
Loaded up Continuum 5.4.1. Only thing missing is BLN. A couple of force closes occasionally.
Compared to Firefly 3.0, it's SLIGHTLY smoother imo. Firefly was plenty smooth, and Continuum definitely cleans up the UI speed a bit.
But that CRT animation- good LORD that's sexy
