i like the traditional bimmer style headlights, these ones are really rectangular =( the front end of the new x3 looks like it has chubby cheeks LOL although the looks may not look so nice, hopefully it performs better than expected

why do ppl even bother buying a x3 when there is the x5.
I mean, the x3 is good at nothing.
performance - nope
off road - nope
lots of space and cargo room - nope
baller status - nope
exterior look - maybe (depends on the person)
bmw badge - yes

wow so much x3 hate. Speaking from experience as my mom has one. I for one will say its a great car. The pictures posted in the beginning of the new 2011 model do look more ugly, however the new white (M package) one that was posted looks a lot better. Honestly, its not the best looking BMW. Infact, it was made for ladies. My mom is a small person, that doesn't want a big SUV so this car is just perfect for her. She is on her second X3 right now and we've never had a problem. Whenever i get a chance I'll decide to drive it because its so fun to drive. Very agile, and rev happy (7000rpm reline). Quick on its feet, brakes are solid, and handles like fucking dream. It's no different than a 3-series. It is not comparable to the X5. The X5 is a different class of a class, and infact it drives more like a truck (still a very good vehicle). From what i've seen and experienced I find the X3 a more than decent vehicle, and find it loads of fun to drive. It is especially good in the snow. I live in the hills of West Vancouver, and from the winters a few years ago with snow fall over 3 feet, it easily maneuvered anywhere. I even took it cypress for some fun. This is just my opinion.
its not that bad....

i think the problem is most people buy x3 for the brand not for its so call performance, which imo is pretty weak for a small suv with a bmw badge.
well at least it sells.... look at the infiniti ex....

buttom line i hate wonnabes | you're confusing 4 years maintenance free with basic car warrenty. Sure the 4 years free maintenance is a great marketing attraction to BMW sales, but hey in the long run in ownership you'll probably save close to $1000 in dealership work. Our previous X3 went for 2 inspection 1's, and 1 inspection 2. Inspection 1's are normally $200 give or take, and when we did the inspection two I was told that it was $750 worth of work done to the car (including the fuel filter replacement which is located inside the gas tank). Would you like to an extra $1000 in you're bank account? if shit breaks down within 4 years/80,000kms then yes, basic warrenty covers it.

you didn't factor in how much more a bmw cost compare to other brands. people that can afford bmw shouldn't have any problem paying for the maintenance while people that struggle to pay for maintenance cant afford a bmw.

its not that bad.... | Although my parents only got it as a company lease car because the 39 month BMW offers is ridiculously cheap, similar cars would cost at least $150 more a month. But they don't offer such lease rates anymore
I've taken the car well beyond where C-Lais have been and all the gripes I have in the city are immediately forgotten offroad where the car is composed on bumpy surfaces and on a 1:1 slope the car had no slippage whatsoever. Car has decent ground clearance but also a stiff suspension. (scratch that spine cracking suspension)
Obviously though 99% sold in vancouver will never go off road, but the car is a good size for us and seats 5 well. Best part I like is the 3.0si has effortless power and from where I live near dunbar/ubc driving to richmond center I average around 9.5L/100km I kid you not. Even when my mom drives through all the c-lai parking lots etc in richmond still manages a 13.5 which is a solid number for a car putting down these kinds of numbers.
And sidenote is the reliability, firstly maintenance is covered for the first 4 years saving you thousands over a mercedes. But never have we noticed a lightbulb failure or anything whatsoever, I believe consumer reports will back me up on this, this car is built quite well IMO
Anyways to stay on topic, new look seems more macho, I just hope it's more comfortable, hopefully improvement would be like the e90 from the e46 haha. But I kinda agree with some of the above posts, the current X3 although controversial styling-wise has more character in the look, this new one just looks really bland.
Spoon.ek9, i'm not sure what kind of an x3 you drove that drove like crap, I'll admit it's no m3, but as a drivers car transmission is excellent and the car's awd really puts you into corners with lots of grip. This isn't a car for the camry crowd.

My point that i was trying to make is BMW uses this 4 year maintenance free to intrigue customers, and it works! They also have very competitive lease rates too which are much better than other premium brand cars, or even non-premium brand cars. Filthy Rich, Rich, Mid class, Comfortable, Poor, Dirt poor, Bum, what ever status anyone is. I'm sure most people will appreciate the extra $1000 in their bank for the 4 years of free work done to their BMW. This also gives BMW owners more peace of mind to the original basic warrenty they offer.

The MSRP including discount was about $50,000 (usually $56,000). I think the price is right for such a vehicle. Honestly, go price a toyota highlander, Mercedes GLK 350, Volvo XC60, just about any car as a competitor to the X3 and you will see how it has the best price in terms of Leasing. Leasing BMW's are the way to go. You use it for the duration given, return, and get a new car. You dont have the deal with the typical ticking time bomb BMW. I know because i've spent twice as much on my old 5 series than what i bought it for. BMW is trying to get anyone in a BMW, and there's nothing wrong with making sales. What i'm confused about is that people are criticizing the X3 as the cheapest BMW and it was bought for status. If thats the case, then whats the 323i for? The X3 has an expensive price tag, but not uber expensive. There are people who buy cars carelessly (for status), most of the time i see the X3 was bought for the extra ground clearance, cargo room (compared to a 3 series), and because its somewhat compact. There are plenty of people buying BMW M cars, or Mercedes AMG cars just for Status. Any car brand/model can be bought for status.

its a nice reliable, good looking car, with good power. Get over it. People dont buy x3s just for the badge (no idiot is gonna spend 45gs on a car just for the badge), its for a family of 4 that need a little bit more room than a sedan, however not big like fullsize suvs. My dad just bought one and it handles like a dream, the straight 6 is money and its roomy and comfy as tits. It looks 100x better than the nasty ass looking GLK350 not mention its waaaaaaay more fun to drive than the bulky GLK.

For example with a car like an m3, people buy it for the car's legendary performance and they are getting that. However I won't disagree with you that underneath and extensively testing the car over the last 38 months I have to disagree with what some members have said.
