Lol that's what most people are telling me i've got like 2 ppl to use face time with as of right now ha everyone else has a blackberry. Everyones been pretty helpful thanks for the different views but now I got another question lol which blackberry? hahaha
I'm saying the 9800 but I keep hearing to just get the 9000 it's better or the 9700 and even that new curve 3g. Like I said I want the 9800 as of right now seeing as the 9800 has everything i really want and need in a phone, but if it turns out being garbage would you guys say the best alternative is to just get the 9700? And call it a day.

I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to cell phone technology and wifi etc etc. But, with the iPhone 4, you can only facetime when you have a wifi connection right? Wouldn't most people that want to use facetime have enough space / privacy to just use a laptop with a webcam? I currently have a Storm2 (Telus) and a Pearl (Rogers) and have thought about getting an iPhone 4 and facetime seems like it would be great in certain circumstances.

Keep in mind I don't live in a city anymore, in Fort McMurray we don't have wireless hotspots anywhere but inside houses.

officially yes, only on wifi. again you can jailbreak you phone and do all kind of stuff to it that apple doesn't approve. I've try facetime over 3g and it works great.

take my word for it, i've been around cellphones for a long time, and the one thing that blackberry seem to not understand is that the hardware needs to match up and wrk well with their software. as i said.. BB6 is AMAZING, but the hardware itself doesn't let the user experience what it really is about.

Wen the torch launches, and it turns out to be shit, well whos to blame. The software is great, but the general public will call it a failure

OH WAIT...

DID YOU REALIZE THAT THE 4+ YEAR OLD N95 HAS BUILT-IN GPS, 5MP CAMERA, ACCELEROMETER, AND A FRONT FACING CAMERA?

iPhone best phone my ass... it's up there but definitely not the "best"
I hate how apple makes fanboys like you by making ads that make it seem like they were first to come up with the technologies they use in their phones.

Alpine50 08-11-2010 10:47 AM

^^^^^ agree that's why I always tell my friends I'm nit really that impressed like the phone Is a really awesome phone but as for them saying oh this changes everything, I'm like changing what? You put a camera on the front for video calling that's been on 4-5 yr old phones like you said the N95 that phone was amazing my friend had it way back before it started getting popular and it blew a lot of phones out of the water but same with the LG shine that phone even had a front facing camera lol. I hate guys like that too that claim apple did it first and there phones the greatest phone ever, like I love my iPhone 3g and even the 4 but there's so many other phones that are comparable it's not even funny.

As for my blackberry issue I think I'm just going to use my upgrade and get the torch and if it's just a pain to use and it's laggy I'll just sell it and pick up a white 9700.

BBM for the win.
I use it constantly for work and social stuff, particularly, like many others, with those who are long distance.

I've got a Storm, personally it's my favorite of the BBs as I like the larger, touch screen but the track pad on the new keyboarded BBs is pretty nifty too and improves them a great deal, it's much more tactile then the old , chronically broken track balls.

if any of you guys have use iphone for some amount of time you will know the innovation lies in the software and the user interfence NOT the hardware.

but yea you are right iphone has substandard hardware compare to what is coming out or already out there.

Speaking as a previous n95 owner, n95 has all those great hardware but the horrible os makes me not enjoy using the phone as much as the iphone with its inferior hardware but superior os. you can only be wow by the 5mp camera so many times before you realize your digicam is still better, and besides the camera there is 0 fun things to do... browsing is a pain in ass... installing apps is a pain in the ass..... Now i guess you can make the argument that apple fanboys are superficial and only look at the surface

I agree, Anyone remember the roger's plan (video calling)?

That didn't work out so well.
Who would want to talk on the phone with a speaker phone and holding it. You wouldn't be able to talk and walk.

Face time is cool feature for you and the significant others, while BBM or MSN has greater social networking.

The new thing is to ask a chick for their pin, or scan em lol.

I have tons of girls on my bbm and most of them I dont even have their number but we communicate perfectly fine

I know nothing about Facetime but what I do know is that once you start building up a list of friends on BBM, it's hard to let go of a BB. If and when you decide to upgrade/change phones, this can be a real deal breaker when it comes to decision making.

Edit: Video calling sucks and it can get expensive.

Alpine50 08-11-2010 10:21 PM

Video calling doesn't take up any minutes on the iPhone 4 it's over wi-fi

I agree, it's implementation of the hardware - what enrages me is that Apple says something, and all their fanboys suck dick and believe all of it...

"Apple iPhone 4" - "Now you can talk to people face to face for the first time ever!"

er..... no

TRD Rs200 08-12-2010 09:28 AM

facetime is going to be like video call, looks cool at first, but its actually uselss, do YOU really want ur gf to know where YOU ARE on a Friday night? Cause I don't

wasabisashimi 08-12-2010 10:19 AM

^ what he said, plus even if the video call from 2 yrs ago were free, I wouldn't care for it still. Unless you are in the spying business and needs to stream video to a team of assassins

No problem. Buy an android phone and use it as a WiFi hotspot. then use the iPhone for facetime!

Android saves the day.

Strzelec 08-12-2010 08:49 PM

Once the novelty of facetime wears off, it won't ever be used, especially with the wifi only restriction for non jail broken phones.

Just got my desire, not gonna lie, I love the thing.
In my honest opinion, after being a berry user for years, I really believe that android is going to be the future of mobile phones.

facetime itself ain't got shit on bbm, but i agree with whoever posted above me...

it really depends on your circle of friends, if you don't have anyone that uses bbm, then it's almost pretty useless because the multimedia part of the phone is garbage compared to an iphone. i use both phones, just cause company pays for the blackberry. i don't use the blackberry for anything either than bbm, and the calendar feature of the bbm groups. iphone on the other hand...i use it for gaming, youtube, ipod, browsing...etc

so if your comparing, then it's obvious that your choice is iphone, if your not comparing, and leaning towards bb, well its obvious that you got friends on bbm and your hooked.

in terms of android taking over, in time it probably will, but right now all the attention is towards apple. more attention, more devs, more apps, more cool things to kill time on. overall usage, i still think iphone is still one of the best phones. I've used a nexus one, and there are apps that don't function that great. Now im not blaming the OS, but there's just not enough exposure for android phones just yet imo...but when it does...

Szeto 08-13-2010 03:02 PM

dude, just pick up both, how's that? ... :D you got both facetime and bbm covered

see if you can get a blackberry for work (reimbursed by company) and get the iphone yourself ;)

rk604 08-13-2010 03:53 PM

i do have that....but it sucks having to check both phones. its a hassle!

Alpine50 08-14-2010 11:37 AM

so im guessing the best bb out right now is the 9700 then? cuz from what im reading a lot of ppl arnt happy with there 9800's

Teh Doucher 08-15-2010 11:07 PM

both are awesome phones, they both have their uses for sure. that being said, i just ditched my 9700 and got an iphone. why? because i love all the apps that it has.. the berry is just to blah for me. who knows, maybe its a hell of a lot better with OS6, i dunno.. im more of a multimedia person who wants to be able to have an awesome web experience where ever i go. the only reason i had the blackberry in the first place was for friends, and to be honest, i realized that true friends will contact you on any phone you are using.. if you want something that you can pass the time with and have some fun with as well, get the iphone. if you want something thats a workhorse with awesome email capabilities and a great messaging experience, get the berry. btw, torch looks like a turd, the processor on that phone isnt able to handle that OS very well. darthchilli hit the nail on the head with his post.

Durrann 09-24-2010 12:34 AM

Just curious to all bb users if u have whatsapp
I mean for those who want to communicate with iPhone friends
Is there a yearly fee for bb users to use whatsapp?
I'm testing out pin and it's very unstable as of now
