honestly guys, if it's only 20-30 dollar difference between Cathay and some other airline. Go with Cathay :)

I recently came back from HK. On the way there I took CX, the way back I was on JAL. Even between those two, Cathay reigns superior by a LONG shot. (Top Gear all seasons up to 16 is available on demand right in front of you is a plus)

I find the quality of Cathay to be declining in the last few years. Their seats are hard as fuck and there's no reclining seats now, only ones that slide the bottom forward.

EVA Airlines, on the other hand, was far superior. Been on a flight on that airline ONCE but it certainly wow'd me. Comfortable seats, tons of entertainment, better service and best of all, cute flight attendants.

^ This. I work for both JAL and CX and if I were to fly across into Asia I'd definitely pick Cathay over JAL. CX has by far better in-class service, as well as meals and seats. Don't get me wrong, JAL used to be alot better... before the financial complications n all. IMO the only issue most passengers have that I encounter is that a number of certain ethnicity tend to abuse the "be comfy" policy once the plane is safely taken off and en-route.

Keep in mind as well, some people choose their flights based on departure timing and arrival time.

I got to try the new seats when I flew with Cathay. They were ok for the 5 hour flight I was on, but I'm not sure if I could do 13+ hours on it to Asia.

Since you cannot recline, only the seat bottom moves forward. So just imagine yourself in a fixed seat and slouching forward cause thats what it does. Bright side no one is in your grill when they recline, downside is your back is in awkward position and you sacrifice leg room when you slouch forward.

Other than price, I also consider delays/early arrivals. I have never experienced delays with CX. Half the time my AC is delayed.

If you plan to travel in Asia, CX connecting flights and its affliates is the only way to go.

Just to add to the discussion a few pages back, I took Cathay's "new" seats from Vancouver to Bangkok via HK and they were AWFUL. I will not fly with Cathay economy again as those seats made for hands down the worst and most uncomfortable long haul flight I have ever had and their better in-flight entertainment and service (maybe, ha) was NOT enough to make up for them.

$1200 taxed in is like the cheapest cathay will go for LOW SEASON, for july, its high season so probably around $1500+, maybe closer to $1800

as for the new seats, i guess they r OK, im not complaining abt them because i never found plane rides to be comfortable even with the old style seats. the thing i like the most abt the new seats are that 1, the person sitting in front of u doesnt invade ur space (re: crushing laptop experience), 2, the power outlets available on all the seats now. for some reason i find myself to be able to sleep longer in these seats than the old style seats where i would literally stay up the whole flight LOL.

That's not really a "deal" considering the average price this time of the year.

I haven't booked my July flight either...FUUUUUUUUU last year I booked it for $9xx taxed in on AC in July or towards the end of June.

G 02-18-2012 10:30 PM

Thinking of booking for April/May. Is that considered expensive/high season? How much should I be expecting?

CL typeS 02-19-2012 09:26 AM

AC still has it for 1150 taxes in etc. But it went up again tho. Started at 890, the 990, now 1150

Is it a V class ticket? I was able to get one for $1280 tax in. for July 17 to July 22. booked with V class :) I believe that is the lowest for CX. if someone finds a lower rate please tell so I can use econ seat guarantee for the lower fare !

HonestTea 03-05-2012 02:06 PM

Whats a V-class ticket?

V-class is a subclass of Economy, Y subclass is the most expensive sub class in Econ (full fare econ) while V-class is the lowest subclass (cheapest ticket that still allow you incur miles) anything under V class you won't be collecting miles Theses are all subclass of Econ that collect asia miles. Y, B, H, K, L, M, V
