I have been contract free with Telus for nearly 2 years now. I've attempted to get a phone from them twice and both times I have failed. Yesterday, I went to a Telus store to see if I can get a cheap phone by signing a 2 year contract. The Telus person attempted to do it for me but she said it wouldn't allow me to sign a 2 year contract on my existing phone plan. In the end she contacted loyalty for me. She told me the only way for me to get a cheap phone is if I signed a 2 year contract on an $85 per month plan. Right now I only pay $55 per month and have been with Telus for 5 years. Good luck to your friend.

If your friend is under contract and on a $70/mo plan there is hope as you have somewhat more bargaining power than off contract users. Either that or buy a new phone outright (or a used phone) if your friend is completely content with their existing plan as it is less expensive in many cases. Provider stinginess is not a Telus exclusive, it's across all 3 major companies these days.

Have them call into retentions anyway and try their luck with a willing CSR.

Anybody recently get on a non contract plan with Telus? Just bought an i6 outright and only have $80 left on my current plan. I wanna know what I can expect to get when I go talk to them. Thanks in advance.

My contract recently lapsed so I made some minor changes through L&R. They've been giving out 10% discounts on contracts coming to an end. Good time to call in.

Unlimited local minutes
6GB
CID
Unlimited text
VM25
30min CDN LD
Call FWD
MTM
$70/mo

Same plan before but with VM10 and at $80/mo. Carried over phone so no device balance.

Telus, especially with Loyalty/Retentions, has been the best company that even pretends like they care about loyalty.

I'm currently on a L/R plan as well; 6GB, unlimited local, CID, unlimited SMS/MMS, MyFav10, Voicemail, etc., at $64 before taxes.

It sure beats the stuff in Robbers retention thread lol
