Telus Retention Plans

There is a Rogers rentention plan thread as well as a Fido one.

So let's hear all of your Telus experiences and plans RS'ers! How have you guys approached calling the rententions phone number?

I am looking to upgrade to a new phone (thinking HTC Desire) and a data plan. I've been with Telus for 6+ years and just recently had my contract end. I am now on a month to month contract. Will be calling them soon to hopefully get a deal like some of the ones posted in the Rogers and Fido threads.

the first person u talk to probably wont be the retention people unless u call them directly, the customer service reps cant really give u anything, so just tell em "i wanted to know how much longer i have left on my contract", they'll ask why, or u can tell em ur looking to cancel or go over to Bell, or Rogers since there offering you something better, then they'll end up forwarding you to the people who can actually do something(retentions).

There going to give you a BS offer the first time around(depending on the person you get) You have to keep calling them, like once a week or every two weeks and negotiate with them, by saying bells offering me this and this can you beat it, or match it?

telus retentions are shit right now, i had a sweet plan on cdma but now that they've moved to hspa they're so stingy

been with them for 11 years and they offered me basically what they offer new customers and they were giving me a "deal"

im month to month right now but thank god all my add on perks are good for 3 years(signed a 2 year contract) heh

I re-signed last week.. basically got my old plan extended another three years.
250 mins billed by the second, unlimited text, caller ID, VM, call forwarding, call waiting, etc., and unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 7pm, no data. $20/month plus SAF so it comes to ~$30.xx after tax.
Tried over and over again to get them to waive the SAF but they said I'd have to choose a completely different plan and I'd lose my billing by the second. I think it's a crock of shit cash grab but I checked out Rogers/Fido and since I'm a new customer there was nothing even close to what I have with Telus. So I guess I'm hooped and stuck with Telus for the forseeable future.

I guess no one really uses Telus anymore?? Thought I'd chime in on what I got today when I called in to customer care.

$55+tax=$61.60 a month

500 anytime mins
Weekend/Evenings starting at 5pm
Unlimited regular/pic/video texts
Unlimited calling to 10 favorite numbers
Voice mail 10
Caller ID
5GB Data

I've been with Telus for 14 years. Also been using the old City Fido grandfathered for the past 8 for work. But I was getting really tired of my Fido always having little to no reception at home regardless of what handset I had while my Telus always had 3 or 4 bars and no dropped calls. Now I got a plan that covers all my needs with 1 phone and get great reception as well.

I got a similar plan, its called the Voice 25.

300 + 100 bonus daytime
Unlim after 6 + weekend
Unlim text
Voicemail3
Callerid

25 + tax = $28. Been with Telus for 15 years now. They gave me caller id and the bonus 100mins for free.

That's the same plan I got last year

thinking about upgrading to a BB 9900 but don't want my bill to jump up to 50$ a month...I wonder how much 1 gig of data would cost me through retentions, especially since i never go over my minutes or have any other issues with the plan

Did you renew on your same phone? 3 year contract? how about system access fee? I'm with telus for about 12 or so years and I'm running month-to-month, paying about $45 taxes in. wat. the. hell.

I'm seriously thinking of switching out soon..

I got the same plan for two years with a free phone(non smartphone), I told the retentions person that I was not signing up for more than two years from the start...

Also I think you should try calling and negotiating a new deal (Retentions) instead of jumping providers because say u go to rogers u will get what every other joe walking off the street gets, with telus you have some leverage ( your previous history, high monthly bills where they've made money off you, etc.) so stay with Telus and negotiate a better/cheaper contract

Damn, thinking super hard these days

I am hoping that Xmas will bring better, competitive deals from Telus.

Jace,

Don't wait. If you feel unhappy about your plan now, call retentions directly and see what they can do for you - if you don't call, you won't ever know. If you don't mind spending some time on the phone (especially if you get a good rep) they will work with you. I find that demanding to match something like what the discount companies offers, threatening to cancel or complaining seems to yield little traction and shows that you're not willing to see if they will compromise. They generally won't outright give you everything you want, you will have to work for certain features but know how to give and take as well.

My gf is also MTM and recently lowered her bill (along with getting more minutes, text, e/w) after I bugged her about calling in. She also has Voice 25 with 6PM E/W, VM3, UNLTD texts and -$3 for CID (wouldn't waive it unless she locked up). Either way, she had to call in to see and kept working with them until she went with a plan she was happy with.

All new plans have the SAF built into the plan, so it doesn't show up as an extra cost. But I'm sure it's there

You could always follow the TM/retentions thread over at HoFo:
TELUS Mobility

Anyway, my plan is quite expensive but it does everything I need. I do plan on calling in to see if I can get the cheaper (and more recent) unlimited local minutes retention plan.

Unlimited Voice 50
PKG15 (retention bundle) - VM10, CID, Unltd Text
1GB Loyalty Data
Call FWD
$89.60/mo taxes included

Ok guys,

Called Telus Mobility. Spoke to a Selina. Was super nice to her. Asked her what my current plan was and what was offered to me during our last conversation in May. She forwarded me to Michelle at another dept. Michelle was assertive and it sounded like she would fight fire with fire. So I was super nice, weighing my options.

My current plan:
Voice 30 (offered in Saskatchewan)
350 minutes total anytime
e/w after 6pm
5 favourite numbers
called id
unltd text
VM3
SAF $8 or so
TOTAL = $42.50 (tax included already)/month

Plan offered:
Voice ?dunno name?
300 anytime minutes
e/w after 6pm
unltd text+picture
caller id
VM3
No SAF
+Free number change
TOTAL = $28/month (tax included already)/month

It's a bit of a "trading game" Bonka stated. You have to tug a little and they tug a bit, it goes back and forth. I'm losing 50 daytime minutes and 5 fav #s, but I'm saving $13.50/month. So I just got a plan change for now.

Plan to go in to a store, get my number changed and renew for 2 years. Then hook up a used iphone or go with a cheaper smartphone. We'll see.. thanks for everyone's help. Maybe we can all use this thread as a baseline for others when they call in to re-negotiate with Telus.

Its likely the Voice 25 like I posted earlier. Its a pretty good cheap plan.

Clear Choiceâ„¢ Voice Plans | Plans | TELUS Mobility

ask if you can get the Early Weeknights at 5 for signing 2 years.

No data Jace? What you going to use with the used iphone u plan on using

Also don't settle for the first thing they give you, try calling again in a week or so, or a couple weeks and try your luck with another rep, hopefully they already put this current offer in your account notes so even if the next rep is a douche, you can still get this deal
Good Luck

no, no data plan. I turned it off with Telus. I will eventually have it but I'm seeing how long I hold out!

I renewed on a 3 year plan today with a Sony Erickson Xperia Ray smartphone Love how damn thin it is! It's like glass...

yes there are only a couple of smartphones that you can get without a data plan. They are typically a low-end smartphone. I got mine free on a 3 year. Otherwise it's like 250 or sth on a 2 year.

I'm quite happy with my sony so far though. The screen quality is amazing. like a sony TV
