Getting a Honda radio code
 

My brother needs to find out the radio code to his stock 2005 Civic Coupe stereo.

Has anyone tried the #1/#6 presets to determine the serial number? I won't get my hands on the car for a couple days but just curious if there's any truth to that method. I am hoping to avoid having to pull the stereo to get the serial number.

Second, once I get the serial number, has anyone found a local dealership that will provide the code at no charge or hassle?

The morons at Pacific Honda told us "sorry you need to buy a new stereo". Idiots.

Heres what happened to me back in 2000 with my honda oem stock radio.
I called Marine Drive Honda and told them that an error code appeared, and they were nice enough to tell me the code over the phone.

Otherwise, you could always show insurance papers to the serivce guys and prove that its your car...then they just give you the code.
Simple and free.

I still remember mine 10 years ago...even though its now a DVD screen.

you should go in to the dealership.
I know we do this if you bring in the car.
We will not give out radio codes over the phone because it could easily be a stolen radio and that would defeat the purpose of the radio code. Just bring the car in with the insurance papers and they will give you the code...I don't know if all the dealers do this for free though.

Certainly I'd go visit in person and wouldn't expect to be given info over the phone.

If all I need to show are insurance papers, that's easy.

But I have read on a few other msg boards they want the serial number off the radio, which I might have to pull to retrieve.

And Pacific Honda was completely useless.

You need the serial number on the top of the deck.

I've heard the Acura dealership on Lougheed in coquitlam will do it for free as well.

What's stupid is that if someone steals a deck and owns a Honda, they can get the code with little to no risk because the serial number doesn't match the VIN number IIRC.

Not trying to sound smart, but has your brother checked for a sticker (with radio code) around the glovebox? I recently replaced the battery in my Civic, and needed the radio code. At first I was trying to find the sticker on the Inside of the glovebox, but had no luck. However, when I was ready to call Honda, I accidentally found the sticker on the Outside (the side towards the driver) of the glovebox.

And to answer your question, yes I was able to obtain the serial code by turning off the radio, holding on to #1, #6, then turning the radio on while holding the buttons. But I did not get further then that, because I found the sticker with the radio code.

Going into a Dealership would be best...
And yes, on the phone would be unsafe since the radio could be stolen...but in my case, it was ok since they had my car on record.

i got mine thru the phone for free at SW marine drive honda. I called in at work (ok tire) and said i diconnected the customers car battery to do some work and they gave me it =D

I use the 1-6 feature all the time to retreive the radio code for cars whenever we disconnect the battery. Simply call the dealer and ask them to look it up for you. Any dealer should be willing to help you out - if not, call around.

when i worked at honda, the radio code was located on a sticker inside the glove box. look around, it might be there.

Same as Honda, but when i bought my Integra, I needed the code.
First I called Burrard, they gave me a hard time and said I needed to bring the car in and show them insurance and shit, I said "yeah I'll get right on that..."

hung up, called Lougheed Acura, gave them the serial number of the radio and they gave it to me over the phone
try a different dealer

Yeah, I've only had to call in with the serial number and the dealership gave me the code over the phone.

when i got my car back from the bodyshop, i did the #1/#6 to get serial then i went to honda and got my radio code. i also work at the dealership. but the other day i got my 2nd/3rd gear replaced. got in the car with tech and learned that the radio code is on the inside of the glovebox.

also, i unlocked the radio on a brand new cr-z the other day while test driving heh

the code is also in the owners manual, on a little card that says Radio Card.

for me, i just look at that little card in my manual, in my glove :P

Car was bought used. No manual provided.

Problem solved.

The 1/6 tricked worked, in case people are wondering.

But most importantly, there was in fact a sticker inside the glove box with the code.

And at the end of the day, we called three dealers and all three said the only way to get the code is pull the radio for the serial number, at a cost of $100 - $150. Shame.

one of my friends had to do that on his gf's imported s2000. stupid Richmond Honda charged him 60bux to obtain the radio code. ultra lame.

Thats what I was quoted 10 years ago... mother !@#$%. I ended up paying $20 to a Futureshop installer on his break to pull out my radio and write down the serial. Westwood Honda provided me the code for free.

I dun care if they charge $1,000 to pull the radio for people who is stupid enough to go for it then bitch on internet; but will it be a charge to look up the radio code if I pull the radio out myself and get them the serial numbers on it?

That's bullshit they're lying when they say they need the serial# from the deck, they can get it from the VIN, I have at least 15 Honda's in my fleet at work and battery's die sometimes and anytime we've been missing a manual I phoned up the leasing dealership I got the cars from and they had the code for me in less than 5 minutes with the VIN.
