langara/bcit transfer to sfu/ubc?

I was wondering if there were some courses that I could take during my first year at either bcit or langara and be able to transfer to sfu or ubc. Most likely in my second year. Im currently looking at the business and criminology programs, also what would be the requirements to transfer? ive been researching but have not been able to dig up any useful information. It would be awesome if those of you who are enrolled in these courses could help me out. thanks

Most of the people at SFU/UBC have no idea how their institution functions, and since most of the student body is NOT made up of transfer students, you would likely only be getting second- or third-hand information.

In short: Phone or go to UBC/SFU and ask them directly.

Most langara courses transfer to sfu/ubc. Even though the transfer process is tailored for ubc, more of the transferable courses are applicable to sfu. Make sure you check the requirements for ubc/sfu.

For business, make sure your grade 12 math mark is at least c+ or else you'll have to take extra math courses.

I'm more familiar with sfu >,<
sfu business requirements:
http://business.sfu.ca/files/PDF/bba...-nocolumns.pdf

langara courses: If you're deciding on langara, you'll need these courses for sfu.
econ 1220+1221
fmgt 2293+ fmgt2294 (you will need fmgt2294 eventually, but i dont think you need it as ur first ten courses)
busm2200
math 1174
engl1127 and engl 1129 or engl1130
Stats 1181+1182 (4 credits, lab course)
BCAP 1237

NOTHING from BCIT transfers to UBC or SFU, unless it's a diploma or degree.

UBC is quite competitive, but as long as you meet minimum requirements and get 0.25 over, you should get in.

SFU arts is easy peasy. Commerce might be tricky at 3.25+. Science is approximately 2.5-3.0? Someone can correct me. It depends on faculty.

so as long as I keep a GPA of 2.5, theres a good chance that I could get in? I think I will have to call in to ask to make sure again.

btw thanks for the quick reply.

i'm not TOO sure if diploma from bcit is recognized by UBC. I know it is by places like Thompson Rivers and Laurentian, but not too sure about UBC. I know that they recognize the BBA from BCIT

well research was real easy...

Students who complete a diploma at BCIT can bridge into UBC through the Camosun College bridging program. After students complete the 6 month program at Camosun College, they can then continue their studies towards a BASC at UBC (entering the university as a 3rd year student). More information about the Camosun College Engineering Bridge Program can be found at: http://engbridge.camosun.bc.ca/index.php?q=node/8.

Bumping this thread as it has a lot of good info.

Long story short I didn't do well last year at UBC and was forced to withdraw to get my marks up. I have to get an overall GPA of 2.50 with 24 university transfer credits to get back into UBC and its not guaranteed acceptance. I'm currently taking courses at Langara now (Marketing 1115, Math 1271, BIO2315) and was wondering if anyone knows of any really easy GPA boosters to use to get back into UBC.

I believe and please this is words from a friend at BCIT and not me. He says courses at BCIT dont transfer but diplomas might be considered... depending on circumstances, so in other words you'll have to talk to the dean / advisers and like interviews and all that bs. So it's more of the "back door" way to get in.

My friend is in mech, several actually. They're in their co -op now, but when they got in, which was last year, they said the GPA ( in ubc they used percentages.. so gpa was more of a ball park guess for most of us..) the percentage was ~90% + in engineering, my friends got in with 91 to 92% in first year engineering. so i would say a 3.6+ ? It's crazy competitive.. lol

Most of the guys there want to work for some car company and design a engine for them.. me included :P hahah! but its' possible.. on a side note a friend of mine is co-oping with toyota right now and he's looking after the production of the rims.. he says its' quite lol how he can make a negative offset "deep dish" stock corolla rim in neon orange finish haha.

Epic same here, I didn't do so well in UBC and was asked to leave as well. I'm at Langara now taking studio courses :P I've been with Langara for 2 years already if you include this one. My first year there I tried to get my gpa back up by retaking / doing extra courses to get back to engineering (my original program) but turns out it wasn't my thing.. so i wasted a year and now i'm taking studio courses to transfer into Emily Carr or into Art's at UBC or and hopefully I can get into Environmental Design at UBC.

Jordan, to answer your question on GPA booster.. honestly i find most of the courses about the same.. real gpa boosters.. i heard from people and please dont quote me on this cause I honestly haven't taken any GPA boosters that are transferable to UBC/SFU. But I heard that some boosters are cpsc course, Asian studies and apparently if you are good at memorizing crim is pretty easy too. I remember there was a cpsc course that is transferable to UBC/SFU that was pretty much all power point and other office processing stuff... but i forgot what it was called...... sorry D: Oh yes geography/ geology courses ( not the science geography with labs.. that was is kinda hard.. unless you can memorize things well )

I saw some where that someone asked about GPA transfer for ubc well here's what i know:
GPA for UBC transfer into arts program is at a 3.0. I talked to the advisers there (several advisers.. beacuse just trusting one is stupid, I know this by experience.. ==) the "forsure"* acceptance is 3.0 GPA into the Faculty of Arts. Science is a bit higher at 3.2 to 3.5.. they weren't' so clear.. but I'm assuming from what they said its' about there.

*for sure means you get in 100% but i highly HIGHLY doubt that.. nothing in this world is 100%. I would say getting a 3.5 will get u close to 98% accepted in.

(please dont trust me 100% on these, as I am still hunting for information.. ubc/sfu/emilycarr/bcit.. all these transferring stuff are very unstable.. and restricted by many hidden rules and other obstructions.. so best would be to talk to an adviser.)

and sorry for long post + epic grammatical errors that make a esl student rofl.. its' 6 am.. and i haven't slept... damn this studio course...

I am not sure about SFU but i can tell u that just try your best and maintain your 3.0. Chances are SFU will accept you, but in all honesty if u end up wiht a 2.8 GPA your chances would be at a 75% getting in or something around there. But this is based off of friends who got in.

And ya dont fail it.. try your best to get even a 1.0 Gpa in that class. It affects you a lot if you have a F. And ya phil is kinda hard at Langara ><'' best of luck to you on your finals since they're coming up!

Sauder haha. Honestly its' really based off of your extra curricular (based on my experience that is...). Are you a high school student going into sauder? or are you transferring from another post secondary? beacuse it's different for both. However, there are similarities.. Sauder application is pretty much, based off of extra curricular. If your extra curricular is OUTSTANDING and AMazing omgosh! then ya you are in even if you gpa is not that great (to a curtain extent). In high school acceptance I had friends with high 90's that got rejected beacuse they didn't' have extra curricular.. where as some low 80's but with so much extra curricular stuff got in. A freind of mine got rejected to sauder beacuse he had no extra curicular but marks were amazing, he ended up going into Upenn commerce since it was strictly based on marks. Kinda gives you an idea of how sauder accepts people ><'''
