WTF no coverage East of the 99 in Richmond, guess I won't be switching.

TOS'd 11-17-2010 12:11 PM

So the grey area will have no service? Or just different rates. Ie. Whistler, Squamish, Cypress

I believe its 20 cents per min in the grey zone and u have to prepay into the "wallet" to use pay per use services

Within Mobilicity's Unlimited Coverage area you get unlimited use of all the features in your plan on a 3.5G network. And when you're in the Nationwide Coverage area you can still use your phone for talk, text and data for a low pay-per-use rate.
Pink zone is unlimited, grey is pay per use :( anybody know how much pay per use will be lol

edit: found it.. fml 20¢/min text 10¢ per use data $5/Mb

kayceeee 11-17-2010 01:02 PM

At least mobilicity coverage covers the tricity whereas wind doesn't..but both just as gay in terms of coverage n roaming zone fees n whatnot

do they plan on expanding in the future or is this it? wind plans to expand. and i dont have an issue with no coverage in tawassen/delta/white rock with wind.

Tim Budong 11-17-2010 03:15 PM

its funny how if i ever decided to switch when they launch, I have no coverage on my commute to work and into White Rock..hahahah

Gh0stRider 11-17-2010 03:19 PM

i hope they expand their unlimited coverage. Pay per use sucks.

misteranswer 11-17-2010 08:28 PM

At least their US roaming rates are cheaper.

m3thods 11-17-2010 08:52 PM

so the gray area won't be covered if i get the province-wide/nationwide options that are included in the $45 plan?

The gray area is part of the "Mobilicity Nationwide Coverage". You're talking about the "Province-Wide Long Distance" / "Canadian Long Distance" Which is....say if you're in Vancouver...calling to someone at Prince George.

mc. 11-17-2010 09:22 PM

god dammnit......... why must they use a different frequency.............

Cause they couldn't purchase the 850/1900Mhz HSPA frequency.

ah makes sense thanks!

probably can't see myself switching over due to a lack of phone selection (i should've gotten the n1 when i had the chance)

but kind of funny i called rogers just to see when my contract ends and the girl explicitly told me to call back for retentions tomorrow and they'll probably work a deal out for data, which I don't have. i wonder if they'll just straight up match mobilicity's rate.

I'm going to call Rogers tomorrow or Friday to ask them to match up with Mobilicity for me too.

CP.AR 11-18-2010 01:46 AM

so basically... with all these new carriers

I go to work... I get gyped
I go to school... I get gyped (well maybe not anymore...)
I go to my favourite park to BBQ in in Tswwassen... I get gyped
I go Autocross in Pitt Meadows... you get the flow...

Didn't work to well for me. Best I got it down to was $85+tax for 500 minutes, unlim text, 2 gb data +voicemail and caller id and call waiting etc

I made that call yesterday and went from $85 taxes in to $61 for all I need. This is higher than Mobilicity, but I am still happy.

The guy from Rogers explained that they have three brands:
1. Premium brand - Rogers
2. Medium - Fido
3. Some brand just like Mobilicity but I can't remember the name.

Mobilicity is "renting" usage of big player's towers and offers such rates because they put more people on the "same line". This is why Rogers (being premium) cannot match that price as you will have better quality connection with Rogers.

Sounded plausible to me, so I decided to stay with them.
