Watch out for the optical illusion in West Van

Quote:
Motorists travelling on 22nd Street in West Vancouver will be confronted with a 3D image of a little girl chasing a ball in the street starting next Tuesday.

The display, which costs $15,000 to run, will be installed in a school zone on 22nd Street, just north of Inglewood Avenue, and very close to École Pauline Johnson Elementary School. It will be in place for one week.

The 3D image will look like an indistinguishable mark from far away, but by the time the driver is within 30 metres, the image of the girl and ball will become clear.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1693547/

What a way to spend $15,000 and possibly cause more accidents with an inexperienced driver... especially when testing is done near a school zone. Some idiot is going to swerve off the road and take out god knows what.

our tax money?????

next thing we know.. another tax will be introduced: the optical illusion tax. Also, the HST will probably apply to this optical illusion tax.

so it's like paying a tax on another tax.

holy wat a stupid idea.... this is going to cause so much accidents. People will shit their pants, slam on the brakes and swerve into something, or be distracted and stare at it while they drive by head on into something else.

if this was in the states, lawyers will be lining up the day this thing goes live.

redonculous!

For $15,000 couldn't they get a optical illusion that works? or at least looks cool?

That's a pretty cool idea. Probably right that it'll only be effective the first time, if it's only for a week people will hardly have time to really get used to and lazy on the idea though.

This won't cause a single accident or problem for a competent driver.

That idiot shouldn't be on the road if they overreact. Fail, take away license. Then maybe we'll get higher speed limits.

So this, like those carboard cut outs of kids they put out by schools is just going to make people further jaded to small child sized things on/near street?

Yeaaaahhh smart.
