| iPhone 3G Without SIM
Searched online but I keep getting mixed answers.
I have 2 Rogers 3G iPhones and have iPhone 4's coming to replace them. Is there some way to use my old 3G iPhones like an iPod Touch if I remove the SIM card? Will they even work without a SIM?

Why don't you just take the sim out of your phone and try it? Besides you're getting 2 new microsim's with each phone and the old sims should be deactivated. So it wouldn't matter really either way.

After getting my Torch, I've just used an old sim card I had for my Iphone 3g and use it like an Ipod Touch. I just leave it in the airline mode.

Yes, they will work without the sim. If you restore the phones to factory settings, you will have to connect them to iTunes to activate them.
After that just remove the sim and away you go.
If you aren't going to restore your phone, just take out the sim and use it like you normally would. All it would say is that there is NO SIM in the top left hand corner.
At least that's what it did for me on my 3G.
Why don't you try it now? Wouldn't hurt.

they will work without the SIM once activated. I can 100% confirm this as I used my 3G solely as a GPS and an ipod for about a month (without sim)

^ Navigon is my choice, it's clear, it's got lively colours, and best of all the voice dosen't sound annoying
and yes... you don't need an active connection to use GPS. A lot of people are confused when it comes to this. The Data connection is only used to download maps, once you have the maps synced to your device - the only thing required for the GPS function to work is a clear view of the sky.
