Anyone in BCIT's CIT or CST programs or previously done them? If so, what's it like?

Just did the orientation today and it was alright. Got me free microsoft software!

I'm in the CST program right now, level 3. You only really have like 3 or 4 main courses that are actually useful this term. I think its just Java, Math, and Web Development. Do all of the Java labs and assignments when they're available on share-out. Usually you're supposed to do it in the lab but doing it at home is good review and practice. Math isn't too hard just some algebra and 0's and 1's. Web dev is HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript. Should be an easy course compared to Java.

Business is an easy 80%++ if you just do the assignments and stuff. English is a complete bitch, both the course and the teacher. Have fun with that haha. Then it's all like the learning essential stuff.

Also, if you need any help always go to the gym, usually thats where most CST students are. At least from my set and some of the other sets from last year. Or just ask me haha.

I'm in CIT 2nd year (level 3), probably the hardest course for me was Java. My advice would be to get a head start on your projects asap. 12-15 weeks may seem a LONGGG time to work on your projects, but with all the other work you have, time will fly by really fast.

Oh, and remember to suck up to the smartest kids in your class since you are basically stuck with them for the next 2-4 years =]

Oh right, good luck if you have Susan Woo as your COMM instructor ahaha

took a while for me to finish CST. definitely need to focus to stay on track with a good grade.

CST makes fun of CIT, and vise versa. Depends which job you're wanting more.

^She's like the most not liked teacher in all of the teachers the teach a CST course. She made the whole entire course for the CST/CIT program and it's really not that great.

Give it a couple lectures and labs and you'll slowly want to just die in a fire or something when you're in one of her classes. And she's a really hard marker.

CST focuses more on programming and scripting stuff whilst CIT focuses more on general stuff like databases and user interfaces.

Old thread but I have a question for the people that have responded here (or currently enrolled in CST or CIT or a program higher than those two or graduated already)

For both people who have taken CST and CIT, were you guys just aiming for the diploma after two years completion time? if not then what programs did you take afterwards?

Also, how hard was it to find co-op positions and if you have already graduated how hard was it to find a job right after? (please state programs you took as well)

I'm a CIT student and I'm in my first year still (almost done, just have to get through this 5 week practicum) and I'm aiming for the Games Development BTech option. The prerequisite to that would be the program I'm currently enrolled in or CST.

Getting a coop position is quite hard in my opinion. This year, there were only 30 spots available for the entire first year CST and CIT students. CST has ~5 sets (~20 people/set) and CIT has only 2 sets.

I can't answer your last question due to not having graduated yet.

I completely agree with you. My classmate fucked up during our group presentation. She misinterpreted something he said and she completely flipped out at him.

Now I know what ForbiddenX was talking about...

Hey thanks for your reply. Do you know approximately how many people are in first year CST or CIT? (never been to BCIT before) Is it like in the few hundreds or ~100
wondering cause 30 people seems unfair if there are like 300 students in first year.

This year for first year, from what I've seen, CST has around 5 sets, each set consisting of approximately 20 people.

CIT has 2 sets which also consist of 20 people respectively.

(5*20) + (2 * 20) = 140 people

So out of ~140 people, there were only 30 spots for a coop position.

Hmm... for me, I'd give it a 7/10. I felt as if I had to self-learn everything throughout most of my courses. Lectures didn't really help me so I attended to them less and less throughout the term. I'm also not happy that I don't get another programming course next year so I'll have to self-study that from now on. Learning just Java isn't good enough imo.

Susan Woo teaching COMM doesn't really help either.
