Nah, I'm sure they have a team of bean-counters and efficiency experts that can tell you how much the company saves if a customer takes 1 napkin instead of 2.

I wonder how mcdicks even calculates costs of things like cups and syrup, i guess just per store

I can ask my buddy next time we play poker, he owns a bunch of stores. I know the least amount of profit for them is on bottled water, the conversation came up last time we played. They also lose a lot of money on sauces like nugget sauce and packs of mc chicken sauce.

I dont care bout most of the over-priced items but textbook prices are fucking ridiculous, if tuition wasn't enough for students to bare, they mark up the textbooks and change editions every fucking 2 semesters so you people have to buy new, can't even sell the old ones anymore

Vansterdam 09-08-2010 05:40 PM

I never get the point of bottled water, especially in BC, where the water is as clean as u can get anywhere in the world. Tap water tastes just the same, if not better, than bottled water. Some ppl say it's convenience but how do u get more convenient than grabbing a cup & turn on the tap? I just dun get it.

I never understood how bottle water companies make money here in BC.

It's like selling sand to somebody who lives in the desert .

The ignorance/laziness/stupidity of people really amazes me.

hirevtuner 09-08-2010 07:12 PM

extended warranty for electronics and cars...shit that costs like $100-500 that you might not use in the end

rawr 09-08-2010 07:18 PM

I've read somewhere that cellular phone companies make huge profits from SMS's. It barely costs them anything and they can charge one sms for $0.50 or more.

Great68 09-08-2010 07:18 PM

I can't believe A/V cables from future shop aren't on that list...

Manic! 09-08-2010 07:34 PM

Napkins cost us 3 cents each. Places like Mcdicks now the price of everything down to the last cent. A frozen unfinished donut costs a Tim Hortons franchise owner 17.9 cents.

hal0g0dv2 09-08-2010 07:48 PM

yeah holly fuck, someone should burn the monster cable factory

Cost for McD's is about the same. Years ago it was about $25 for the 20L box of syrup.

Depending which pop it was, they use a ratio of 5:1 (5 Water: 1 Syrup). Coke was I think 4.75:1. Sprite was 5:1

So a 20L box will produce approximatley 100L of pop roughly

You must not have a very good palate.

Fyi there is no ban on outside foods in theatres. I've walked in with starbucks cups or McFood, or even my own.

Theatres are not "primary food service establishments", the requirement for being protected under that whole "you're not allowed to bring outside food into a restaurant" rule. Because they provide the service of entertainment (a movie) they can't claim to be food service provider. There are no signs anymore that say "no outside food or drink allowed".

And if there are, I haven't seen them, nor have I been stopped going through the box office, getting my ticket checked, etc etc etc.

Well I know the 591ml bottles you see in vending machines are something like 97 cents per bottle from the distributor, so vending machines are around 100%+ markup.
