Okay answer me this, if you could make this replica on your own, would you spend 18k on it? Seriously. Donor is a sec gen MR2
edit, what would you get for the same money? Im curious.
edit 2- you edited post #497, reading it now
NO
Personally, i wouldn't buy it because it won't have the signature Aston Martin V12 exhaust note. That's worth every penny and a 1995 celica will not give me that same sound.
18k? i would rather drive a stock Z32 300zx Turbo and NOT TOUCH THE EXTERIOR IN ANYWAY and put the rest of $ in a mutual fund

But alas, at this point in my life, I can't afford that yet, and I realize that. However, these plans are possible with money.

Look at the pictures, it looks like an AM with Down Syndrome. The lines and proportions are all off and the interior has more plastic than the infant toys aisle of Toys R Us.
A person with a true "eye for design" would see it as the piece of crap it really is.

No. I would use that 18k to mod an already existing car. if I had to start from a base car, JZ-swapped Cressidas, modifying an R32 GT-R, VR6 Turbo swapping my Passat, literally any Honda swap, I could go on, but I could do any of these and still have enough money to cover shit that breaks.
To answer your other question...
IF it had to be as of now, then that. A Nissan President. Generally, they come fully kitted for 10-12k imported, leaving 6-8 for maintenance and a couple years insurance. On top of that, it's a V8, and I have room for two more people to enjoy my car and daily it.
If in the next one to two years. then this.
A JZX100 Toyota Chaser. The version carrying the 1JZ-GTE with light mods can be had for the same price as that President. Most of us know what a JZ can do, and for a couple extra grand can be faster, which still leaves 3 for maintenance and some insurance. Again, two extra people can enjoy my car and I can daily it.

But the styling of your fast cars are not very sporty looking. The MR2 does 0-100km in 7 seconds, the regular citizen doenst use much more horsepower then what the MR2 offers. Although the Chaser is nice, lets not forget that for the same money a Ferrari 430 replica can be squeezed out for that 18k and with no big hp and no money left for future maintenance.

People buying my car personally would know that they could bring their own Zed and having gone shopping for one, Im sure they would find out that a turbo version (able to do 0-100km in 5.5 seconds stock might I add ) is for sale. Even if they dont know about the turbos, the uninformed consumer would be better off not wanting a fast hp car because they are dangerous if one is not experienced.

I know my cars in the sense of picking the right donor, specially the one I have in store for the Aston 77.

I think the average consumer would choose the replica
How would you know? Are you an expert in the field of marketing? The average consumer would buy a car that is PRACTICAL, two seats isn't practical. If you have to do a street poll, then the people being shown the pictures would have to KNOW it's a replica. What consumer in their right mind would buy fake products unless they had a thing for being cheap? Hell I would think the Chaser would be picked with them thinking it's a Camry.

It might not look sporty, but at least it's balancing speed with aesthetics that look it. And it's the real thing. Also, if there's an 18k budget and ONLY an 18k budget and not spending a penny more, what happens if the car needs a new head gasket, or the brakes suddenly need to be replaced, or a tire blows? Yeah you squeezed the whole 18k on the car, but then there's 0 dollars to cover anything that goes wrong.
Have you ever realized that owning a replica will never be the same as owning the real thing? Don't give me any bullshit that maybe the average consumer might want a replica so that they feel like they have the real thing? It it and always will be fake.
By the way, the DB9 isn't even a sports car, it's classified as a Grand Tourer.

Im sold just looking at the pictures, have the consumer test drive the Toyota Martin and Im sure they'd see that despite it being a replica, it would drive like what a modern car should drive and feel like.

It would look good in the driveway at least The cars you like are also right hand drive, sure the GTR is superior and the Chaser is a good all around package, but the replicas will be more exciting to drive, you cant bolt that on in your cars experience.

I read that people always come up to you at the gas stations and ask about the car then you have to tell them its a replica and they laugh... they laugh but most likely they have a generic looking car anyway, just grow a tough skin.

You're sure, but that's just your opinion. And your opinion isn't the general brain of the consumer. Does the consumer think like you? No, so stop assuming the consumer will like what you like.

How do you know this? How can the look of something instantly change the way it functions? Does this replica come with the same performance suspension as the original? Look at it this way, the fat PS2 and the slim PS2. They changed the look of the outside, but did the function change? No, it still plays video games and DVD's. At least the Chaser came stock with a 280HP turbocharged engine in one trim.

What the hell are you trying to say? They're laughing because you're driving a fake car, not because they're trying to cover up the fact they drive a generic car. At least they're driving a car that isn't a fake. Again, stop making assumptions.
i'd rather drive a fucking pt cruiser than your shit box

Todays youth and the slang words they use... you want to have a part time cruiser? and I dont want to know what a shit box is, but Im sure CorneringArtist doesnt want any of it.
@CorneringArtist
So you feel you have too much pride to be in a fake looking and branded car... or you dont have the balls to not care ... Im sure its not just the bang for the performance buck.
Anyway, you guys enjoy your non exotic looking cars while us wannabe, faux super car drivers enjoy our.
"Impress girls who think you are loaded"... I see nothing wrong with
I see u like ur women just as shallow as your fake car.
I admire you passion I honestly do. But how can you possibly think you can pull off everything u have stated when all you have done is paper mâché? Are you going to do the interior yourself? Do you know how hard it is to rewrap something as simple as the visor? Are u going to get professionals to do it? You have any idea how much it cost to do a proper custom interior? If you do how can u possibly still think you are going to make profit?
And no the average consumer like sensible cars or else replica would be everywhere.
Open your eyes and look at the cars on the street. 90% of the cars on the street is driven by regular consumer. I bet u less than 0.1% of ppl drive replica. And they are not your regular consumer.
You should do yourself a favor. Go rent a real exotic and drive it for few days than you will realize what a waste of time your project is.
Channel your passion and fire into something useful and beneficial for you Posted via RS Mobile
Pride is not the issue here, it's the fact that it's a fake car. What do my testicles have to do with driving a fake car? Why the fuck are you calling me out on who I am? You don't know me.
PT Cruiser is a car, Google it. I would rather drive that, at least it's practical, even if it's a shitbox. STOP assuming shit about me, most of your arguments have been based on assumptions and what you think.
I see u like ur women just as shallow as your fake car.

There are lots of flat surfaces in the 77 interior. It should be like fitting a suit to a body... Ive never done that or much sewing, but any obstacles I have Im willing to learn from the internet.
The car Aston replica, not my Zed kit, will start from 30k+ so there should be lots of wiggle room for profits.

What am I missing, the shinny paint? the leather smell? or the great sound deadening? Im not looking for super car performance just super car looks.

Dont you like good looking cars... Im asking, so what if its fake?
Is that supposed to be batman 1exotic? I dont watch TV so Im not up to pop culture.

The times have changed where replicas are worth doing because first, they look as good as their expensive counter parts, and second they are available now with the new main stream technology.
Dealers cant just sell replica's, they get sued, so do builders, so will I one day.
