Standard "3/4-season tire" recommendations?
 

I am looking for tires for Spring/Summer/Fall seasons, particularly something that can do well in rain. My current Nexen tires are absolute shit in the wet to the point it is dangerous in some wet situations.

I have proper winter snow tires already, so this will be for every other season besides winter. Not looking for anything high performance, just standard touring tires is fine.

Size is 195/65r14 or 205/60r14.

I've come across General Altimax GT and Falken Ziex 912 so far, but these are all-seasons. If there's any summer tires that do well in the rain, I am open to those as well.

pirelli p4 p6 are really good tires.
they hold up in light snow, and in the rain. its awesome

dont get falken 912s. The treadlife is horrible. Holds up in the rain ok when its new. but when it gets older, it will slip. Only good thing is that its cheap

I've tried the General Exclaim UHPs and they perform quite well in the rain. The only downfall is the soft sidewalls.
Also, I've heard excellent reviews on the Continental ExtremeContact DWS but I haven't tried them yet.

heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 All seasons..

Anyone heard of the Hankook Optimo 4s? Apparently they are great in the rain and decent in the snow as well.

get Contiental DWS, definitely worth the extra $100-150

912 is good when new afterwards it becomes miserable, same with 512

asx is.....garbage in my opinion

I got the Continental ExtremeContact DWS for my dad's car after looking through a lot of reviews of other all season tires. From what I remember, it was rated fairly highly in wet/light snow conditions.

I'm running on Goodyear Eagle GTs on my S14
It's all season, a bit loud, but they rated highly and I really like them.
I don't know if you're running stretched tires, but if you do, they stretch wide.

here is the review for the DWS. It simply pwns in the snow, I would imagine it doing really well in the wet as well.

edit: I am using pirellis p4, they are pretty badass in the rain and really good in snow as well.

ah, i forgot about a tire i used personally on the ITR before.. : michelin pilot exalto a/s. theyre pretty good for daily use and light snow. great in the wet, and decent in the dry..

if anyone out there is looking for something all season they should go with nokians. for cars the wr's or the new wr g2's. an pretty good all season but on a tire thats actually winter rated. no more buying winter tires with these guys. they perform good in all average conditions and really well in the snow. done.

I guess it depends how good of a summer/rain tire you want. I personally would like a set of good summers since you have snow tires already. I would probably be looking at the Dunlop Z1 star specs if I were you. But keep in mind that thread wear might not be as good as you expected, and also I wouldn't run it below 8 degrees celsius because it's not good for the tire and the fact that it doesn't warm up properly.

They have 195/60/14 so it should be good for you. They're really good tires. People run them dry and wet in autocross and track days and get good results with them.

I'm running General Exclaim UHP all around. It's quiet and decent on tread wear. Even grips in rain. Like 124Y said. The only bad thing about it is the side wall. Its kinda soft.But nevertheless

Its one of the best damn all season tires out there.

I'm using UHP too, for heavier car, especially in rain and size I'm running for it it slides a bit, but it's comfy, quiet, soft, great for daily ride, thus I still love it.

I'm thinking of Bridgestone Potenza RE960 for my parent's even heavier car :P though... The Merc requires XL load rating, on tirerack, DWS isn't even listed for my required load rating...

what car you drive? if its a semi high power car, than if you say it grabs...it definitely grabs

Depends, my GS400 have same power, but slower and heavier, but on same tires, just skinner (225/45/17), it doesn't grip so well... under harder driving conditions of course... normal, it'll do perfectly fine.

I really like the hankook optimo H418 my astra came with from factory. Very quiet and smooth, although when I got the 18" wheels I got a set of falken ze 912. So far no complaints performance wise but they are a bit noisier than the hankooks. And I hear the tread life is horrible. I really liked the kumho asx though, pretty good in the wet and very smooth.

I just picked up a set of Falken 512s over the weekend for my E30. But, I ran these on my GSR for several years and they were pretty decent despite the treadwear.

Good luck with your search. It's pretty difficult to get tires in those sizes locally (I checked myself.)

I didn't create it last week because I didn't almost understeer into a curb before this past Sunday!

thats the thing tho, everyones opinion is different. Some ppl can be using some garbage tires but because their mild driving habbite as well as gutless car they will tell you its great tires, best tires i ever used. :bullshit:


general UHP i had them and they were ALRIT, but that was partially becuz they were down to 60% ish when i got it so cant really rate it.



For me im thrilled for next season to come so i can replace my stupid asx to Contiental DW max summer, heard nothing but great things about them

was debating to choose BS RE760 or DW, but after some research, DW hands down


DWS is great as well, cant go wrong with it

Hmm, so all that's really available locally is the General Altimax RT for $460 taxes in and mounted. Even online the selection is shitty.

Right now, I am debating between the $460 entry-level all season, or getting a set of 15" Kosei K1's with Hankook RS2's (2k miles used) for $725 USD shipped.
