2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid opinions?
 

Has anyone ever owned or driven a Toyota Camry Hybrid? Any comments?

What's the pros and cons of the hybrid as opposed to a normal Toyota Camry?

I bought 2009 Camry Hybrid last year and it's sitting around 35k km already. It's a nice soild vehicle made by toyota. Easy on gas ($50ish get you close to 1,000km), cheap maintance and comfortable to drive my family of 4. Just make sure you have all the recall done and enjoy driving it.

Con part...hmm......some cheap plastic interior parts? don't feel it's a $40k vehicle. I do feel sometime it's under power compare to 6 cylinder but it is better than 4 cylinder. Also it makes me feel I am driving a toy car in the city. No engine sound is just wired, but you should be used to it after couple days....

I like the 2009 design better, 2010 facelift just not my cup of tea.

Oh and their resell vaule sucks, so if you are looking at a used 2009 you can probably buy one for 25kish? Make me sad since one year of driving = 15k depreciation...

^ Oh seriously? thats bad :( well my moms friend has one and hes planning on selling me it for bout 19k with 70k km's, which is all highway miles, I guess thats not a bad price or can I go lower?

How is the "Hybrid's" reliability though? I know Toyota's are always near the top in relaibility but not sure how their Hybrid's stand though.

I really liked it, avg'ed about 6L/100km which is good enough for me and so comfortable, Tires love to screech when turning lol but that doesn't matter in this price range

I've been wanting to get one a few 08's in the low 20's but a lot of the used ones have pretty high mileage like you noticed.

If you've never driven one of these hybrid synergy drive cars i think you should really experience it. I like the silence when you pull away from stop lights and even the cvt transmission.

You lose a bit of trunk space with the battery but i think there's still a bit of a pass through for skis and what not.

I notice resell value comes down quite a bit

Would 19k taxed in be a good price for a 2009 Camry Hybrid with cloth seats and has 70k km's?

i got it as a courtesy car at mb. it was either a camry hybrid or the b class. i should have gone with the b class. the camry was such a pos. driving that thing made me rage. its a perfect car if you are boring person who doesn't like steering feel, responsive suspension, nice interiors, responsive throttle, good brakes, life. other than good fuel economy, which i wasn't able to achieve during my stint, i see nothing good going for it. i can honestly say i would be much happier back in my old broke ass 93 v6 5spd camry sport.

car lags when you accelerate 40% throttle off the line


having passengers/adults with luggage the noisey shitty 4 banger keeps kicking in, making the car sounds noisey as hell.

Lacks of torque and the lag really piss me off, no trunk space either thanks to the battery.

Once u test drive the V6 model no way a person would go for the hybrid. over 100 + pounds of torque difference plus the car aint light either, around 1630kg

for $37g the V6 XLE definitely seems the better choice

if the vehicle is in good condition, local no accident, then 19k tax-in for 2009 camry hybrid with 70k km seems a fair deal. book value is around 14,500 to 17,500 before tax.

Talking about boring person, is there any vehicle under toyota still fun to drive? lol should not choose Toyota at first place. The break on Camry Hybrid is pretty sharp imo, and the electric torque from battery kicks in instantly.

When people looking at Toyota, aren't they looking for reliability and gas economy? If you want a 37g V6 vehicle there are many other choice on the market. Not many people drive aggressively on the street, all they need is a reliable sedan which will work for long time. The gas saving for myself is around $1000 to $1500 a year on my daily mileage.

There is no perfect car for everyone, OP just have to try it and see will it work for you.

Oh on the battery, Toyota provides 8 years or 160,000km warranty on the Hybrid system. Also I've seen some camry hybrid taxi runs over 300,000 km without any issue. Hoping this helps you.

if you put it that way than i suppose you are correct

All toyota line ups are boring as hell, and if going with the V6 was the option than Accord V6/Altima/maxima V6 would be a much better car to drive instead.

It's pretty sad what Toyota's become. I remember back in the day, Toyota had 3 turbocharged sports cars in their lineup. Now... nothing...

Picking up my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 70k km's, accident-free and no claims for 18k taxed in instead of 19k, I guess I heard wrong? :)

I hope that's a good price for the car and not just "average" lol :(

^ not necessarily a good idea. I tried some good "looking" rims on the Cube that was rated at 6.6/7.4 and the fuel econ immediately dropped to 9+ every fucking where.

Put on some OEM wheels today and immediately retained factory rating...So now I'm gonna try something that's wide but OE diameter....
