lol... I can't believe people are trying to justify this. Look, do what you want, you're the one taking the risk. Just don't come complaining about how ICBC won't cover you.

Once u change ur address/use locations if will ask u to get aircare within a certain period of time

this worked 5-10 years ago. I highly doubt it works now, becuase they are no longer stupid. they would make your change your DL licence to the out of town address as well.

Everyone in here that is speculating is a retard.
Your drivers lic. does not neet to match the location of where your vehicles are insured. I will provide you an example as to why..
1) I was living in BC/AB for about 18 months and kept my AB drivers lic. and had a vehicle registered/insured in BC, at my BC address... which obviously doesnt match my AB dri lic address.
2) Lets say you are ballin and have a home in West Van, and a summer home in Kelowna... so you have your dr lic as your west van address... well if you decide to buy a summer car for your kelowna house, it is insured and registered to the kelowna address as that is where the vehicle is used... not your west van address.
People here need to understand that ICBC and aircare are two seperate entities. Read your insurance policy, it doesnt say anything about airacre. You can change your address back and do the territory Z trick and you havent broken the law.. monday you were going to be staying with your friend in whistler for a few months, tuesday you changed your mind. Nothing illegal about that, you didnt lie to your insurer, and you have in fact been a great customer as you didnt waste any time telling them when you needed to make changes to your policy.

Talked to someone from ICBC today (a customer of ours). She said it was illegal and they have a system in place to flag such vehicles. She wouldn't tell me more when I asked, though.
She did say, though, that what people are doing is keeping the car insured somewhere like Whistler and driving it here. She said that will work until you get into an accident at which time ICBC will wonder why you're living/driving in Vancouver when the vehicle is insured in Whistler. She said they would treat it the same as someone getting recreational insurance on their vehicle (because it's cheaper) and then using it to drive to work everyday. She said that is considered fraud since you're using your vehicle for something other than what you stated when you bought insurance.

just a few weeks before your aircare expires cancel your insurance. Wait a week or a few days, and come up with a reason if they ask, and insure your vehicle for another year before the aircare expiry and then you got yourself another year.

Yes that works, and it's considered legal. And it's about the same price as aircare.
$30 canc fee and $18 new plate = $48 taxes in
Air care is $45 + taxes? Quote:

Icbc isn't stupid, it's up to u guys what u do. But when icbc decides to not cover ur ass after u paid $1500+ on ur insurance year after year; don't come on RS and bitch about how bad icbc is when ur the one who lied to them. Posted via RS Mobile |

[size=1 | I don't think that is in question. The loophole seems to be that ICBC will not enforce that you do have your car Aircared within this time period and there are no consequences for not doing so. All the while your car is already insured so there really is no motivation for you to go through the Aircare.
The only thing I am unclear on is whether your insurance coverage policy can be voided because you do not have Aircare, as your insurance and Aircare are unrelated when it comes down to it. Just a matter of interest for me, as I drive an econobox that is Aircare exempt for a few more years.

The question was even though he insure it out side of aircare zone for a year, then change the address back to van. Icbc will flag it and ask u to do aircare within a cretin time period.

The only thing they can do is notify u that they reduced Ur coverages to bare min(200k tpl/ no coll and comp)
I donno if they would do that because of aircare though. I have only seen this happen once but I forgot the case. Posted via RS Mobile |
