Aircare trick in Whistler?

So I went to a used car dealership in north burnaby today with my friend. And the saleman is telling me there's a trick to pass aircare for any car for 1 year. It is to have the car store in Whistler for 1 day? then register? Then you can trick the system and you automatic pass aircare for a year. And you can keep doing this every year. And the cost is free. He's telling me he's been doing this for a long time. So what exactly is he talking about, I don't get it.

the trick is this (according to friends who have done it):

you tell the insurance dealer in whistler (or any other territory z city) that you got a job there. then you come back here and update your insurance. if they ask, you say the job isn't working out and they will ask you to get aircare done. now, they request that you do this but it isn't enforced so you're scott free for one year. friends w/ fully built engines do this but if you're getting a stock car i don't see why you wouldn't fix the problem/have the dealer aircare it before you buy it. they're just being lazy and cheap.

isnt it such a big hassle?

alternatively, what you can do is if your aircare test is due before your insurance is up, just cancel your insurance policy and wait 1 day and renew before your aircare test.. then you have 1 more year longer before testing..

I had a friend from vancouver buy a car from me once and put my home adress as his. no aircare needed cuz it was in squamish and we don't have aircare. he changed his home adress shortly after and never had to worry about it.

I don't care about aircare the slight bit since I don't have it in squamish and I only own a 2010 car anyways, but it seems all you have to do is insure with a out of town PO box and change it days later to get out of aircare.

also, pour used oil in any drain with a fish on it, that means it's helping the enironment

You don't have to travel to a territory z town/city to do this. You can do this at your local insurance broker.

I've been doing this for years because it's a hassle to put he stock cat back on.

If you ever get caught your insurance is null and void, so why even bother, just drive without insurance and expired plates.

I hope the reason you ask isn't because the car you were looking at won't pass aircare and he's teaching you this method so you buy it...

He doesn't. As usual he likes to talk out of his ass.

If you register your car under territory Z you're actually paying more for insurance. How is that considered defrauding ICBC?

Updating your insurance

Your insurance policy must always show your current address (location) and vehicle use.
If your policy isn’t up-to-date, in the event of a claim you might not be covered.
I don't know of the relative rates and rate classes in different areas, but:
1) you can be denied coverage in event of a claim - your coverage is provided as a contract with specific conditions.
2) my understanding is that Lower Mainland insurance is generally more expensive than insurance in, say, Squamish. (I remember one of those stupid "how much do you pay for insurance" threads... and a certain member had relatively inexpensive insurance for a Genesis in Squamish).

The secret is to register your car back at your current location after you already purchased insurance for a territory z town/city. Once you purchased insurance, you do not need to get aircare because it's only required when purchasing new insurance or renewing your insurance. This can all be done in 1 day.

People who modify cars and can't get them to pass Aircare are FAIL mechanics.

There's no reason to use some trick to get through Aircare - just fix your car properly. If you're too damned cheap to fix your engine, then what about the rest of your car (tires, brakes)? You gonna drive around in some POS car that's not even safe to drive on the road because you're too cheap to keep it in running condition?

Yes but, if you do the territory Z trick and move your address with ICBC back to the lower mainland, that is their opportunity to re-adjust your premiums... when you do your change of address.

As long as you ICBC that you are living in the lower mainland, and they provide you with coverage, thats it... they cannot revoke that coverage becuase the initial premiums only covered you for another territory, as they are the ones responsible for adjusting your premiums as your individual variables change,

To clear things up, when u register ur car there are 2 locations. 1 is ur address ur living in. the other is the location address(basically where the car is gonna be parked and used for the bulk of the time}

Territory Z is only if u will be using a BC insured+registered vechicle in out of province areas still in CANADA.

when u change ur address back to BC from a Terr that does not require aircare u have 30days to get it done.if not, sometimes police officers CAN issue a VI for aircare. the main area that needs aircare is Terr "D"(lower mainland)
also the address must be changed asap once u move from one Terr/registered location to another.

is this considered Fraud?
yes, because ur not showing good faith by lying about ur real locations and use.
like taylor192 said. u mite as well be paying ur insurance for nothing

i dont get how they can call it fraud. you take out a policy on Squamish say for $1000/year. you then change your address to Vancouver where it would cost you $1200 to insure. So you pay the $200 difference, and then you have VALID insurance in Vancouver. not having Aircare on the vehicle has NOTHING to do with it's use/storage location, which is what ICBC cares about

I'd like to see you get a bridgeported, single turbo 13b rotary to pass aircare.

^ Nothing like being a little vague. Why don't you post up full details of the engine (and I mean full details) and show me the Aircare sheet results.

Outside of a full-blown race engine (which you shouldn't be driving on the street anyway) there's no reason you can't develop lots of power and still be reasonably clean - clean enough to pass Aircare.
