Asia Vietnam-Korea-Japan

Traveling for a month, whats the best way of doing this? I've went to the travel agents, and was told the following.

Vancouver->HK
HK->Vietnam/Vitnam->HK
HK->Korea/Korea->HK
HK->Japan/Japan-HK
JK->Vancouver

Is there a different option? I hate having to come back to HK on every trip. The extra cost going back to HK is a lot!!

Is it possible to fly from YVR->HK->Seoul->Tokyo->HK->YVR????

Of course it is possible, but it will probably be most costly. If money does not matter, then do the route you suggested.

i dunno if u have family frds or very fluent in chinese. but u can YVR->HK->Seoul->Tokyo->HK->YVR do this. but u book a flight here to hk and then book flights frm hk to korea or tokyo in hk . i find the flight to be much cheaper when u are doing that. instead of booking all at one shot in vancouver where u get raped by the travel agents.

I beleive your agent is correct.
Using HK as the main point of travelling is the least expensive way to fly.
I sort of did the same thing.

YVR to HK.
HK to Singapore and back
HK to Vietnam and back
HK to Thailand and back
The flights were very inexpensive this route.

"YVR->HK->Seoul->Tokyo->HK->YVR"
This route will be the most expensive.
I also wanted to hop around countries to countries. I realized the prices were almost doubled.

Sounds like a great plan though.
Good luck.

Yea HK is a major hub and its usually the least expensive. If you are short on time and have money do it your way.

Thanks. Id rather book it in Vancouver, that way my flights are guaranteed (hopefully). Don't want to be stuck in HK with no tickets. :)

Compare the prices the Canadian agent gives you for the flights from HK to ones from http://www.travel.com.hk/, http://www.ticket.hk/index.php?lang=eng and http://www.zuji.com.hk

Majin, which airline? or which travel agency did u use? I was quoted a rough estimate of $2300 (not including tax and fees) for the trip. and I would have to take the HK route.

Thanks skinny, added the websites to favourite.

the places you mention will not have problem finding tickets

I did a very similiar trip a couple of years back. I flew Korean Airlines and had a stop in Seoul for a week and then continued to HK. In HK i went to a travel agent and booked a flight to Hanoi (HK to Hanoi and then Ho Chi Mihn to HK) with Hong Kong Airways or Hong Kong Airlines and once i got to Hanoi, i booked a flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Mihn City with Vietnam Airways. I woudlnt' book my in Asia travels until you get to hong kong.
Also there's a place on Hastings and Renfrew that will get you your Vietnam Visa without having to send your passport out. I can't remember how much it was but it was about the same price as you sending the passport out to the Vietnam Embassy in Ottawa.

Hope this helps. Btw, you shoudl book a flight to Siem Riep as well, i did that from Ho Chi Mihn City and it was relatively cheap and definitely worth going.

kayak.com /expedia.com

I flew with United Airlines and Vietnam Air/JAL.

Meowjin 10-05-2010 11:15 PM

and most flights within asia are ~ 50-150 dollars.

I really wish I spent time in HK though.
