| advice: 98 Audi a4 quattro, should I buy this car?
hey guys, looking for some advice... I recently relocated to the Okanagan for school and I need to find a newer, more long distance reliable car to commute back home (up north) a few times a year. I don't drive much around the city, i might drive once a week, that's about it.
This A4 has 90000km on it, old man driven (he's an audi enthusiast) only issues it has is it needs a airbag sensor and a seat belt sensor, price is $5700
it's only been serviced at audi and he has all the paper work for it's life.
I know that repair costs on Audi can be really high... but it has low mileage and I wont be driving much, just 3-4 1200km trips home a year and not much daily commuting.
anything else I should be aware of? I posted the kijiji add below http://kelowna.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ218175041 |

Cheap car to cover for the high maintenance cost. Reliable and a4s can't be in the same sentence. Good luck.. Posted via RS Mobile |

I know but I need something safe on long distance winter traveling... driving over a 1000 km in snow is stressful as hell in a shitty car... I'm trying to find a balance...

Hmm... He said it's an American import but the cluster is in km... Seems a little suspect, I better run the VIN. Posted via RS Mobile |

+1 for the subaru
besides, with a lowered car, you may run into clearance issues when driving in the snow

I've heard that the older Audi's are known to have many electrical problems. The check engine light may be just the tip of the iceberg for future problems. The price is good however and who knows maybe it'll continue to be reliable. Don't forget to calculate in the cost of gas as well for the 1200 km as it is a v6 turbo. Not sure how efficient it'll be. Expect to be constantly shelling out for expensive repairs... as stated above expect many electrical problems. For some reason Audi/VW just can't seem to figure out how electricity works.
+1 on the Subaru front. It might seem like the Audi is cheaper, but thats only up front, the long term costs of ownership on an Audi will murder you.

Or you could forgo the expensive repair bills and learn how to fix cars yourself. It's really not that hard...

+Maybe he has nowhere to work on a car
+You need tools, probably some specialty ones cause its a german POS.
+Audi parts are $$$$
Most car stuff is super easy, at the end of the day, 90% of the repairs your car may need is probably limited to nuts and bolts... but there is a lot of people out there who just plain suck when it comes to car repairs.
