| Running a smartphone on a non smart phone plan? (Rogers)
I'm sick of Rogers and their shitty customer service...I tried to upgrade my phone, but it's been nothing but hassles and bad information and just in general crappy service...so I'm thinking of just getting a new phone on my own and living out my contract with them and going somewhere else, or negotiating once my contract's over (another 20 months).
I have a plan that includes "unlimited on-device browsing." Currently I have a SE K850i. I'd like to grab something a little better, perhaps an Android phone. Of course, Rogers won't sell me one of those without switching to a data plan.
What happens if I get one of those on my own and simply toss my SIM into it? I mean I'll still just be on device browsing, and when I signed up for it, they never said "you can't use any other phone but the one you have now"...
Any experiences with this?

Does the on device browsing only work on roger's phones? I just thought so because I know they come with a bunch of rogers apps that other phones don't. But just wondering, I'm not sure cause i'm not even on Rogers. But my advice is probably just to bargain with them on the phone to get a better plan. With fido I didn't even need to wait till my contract was over, I just told the guy that I wanted a bb data plan but it would be upwards of $65 which was way too much for me and that I wanted to make the switch to chatr etc.

I have no idea if they only work on their phones or not...with all the unlocking and stuff going on, I doubt it...I don't use any Rogers apps on my phone to browse.
I've been doing nothing but negotiating with them for a week...I'm sick of them. Plus, I might be moving out of the country for a year or so (I'd say 80% chance), so I don't really want to get locked into a 3 year contract anyways...

I believe device browsing registers you for wap browsers. So I'm not sure it'll work. You'll prob end up paying an arm and a leg for data after Posted via RS Mobile |
