The signs on the highways say: "Slower traffc keep right"
Since the word "slower" is a comparative adjective, move your ass over if you are slower compared to the drivers behind you.
Learn to comprehend correctly.

We need to bring OP to the states and count how many angry drivers behind him will finger him, overtake him with anger, and honk him.

By then he will ask the same question and continue trolling..

The OP stated several times that he does not stay in the left lane, he was just opening the topic for discussion..which is exactly what a discussion forum is for.

I see the signs that state "slower traffic keep right" or "keep right except to pass" but does anyone know if that is law or not? Can you legally get a ticket for doing the speed limit in left lane?

I agree with above posts though, stay in right lane unless you are passing or traffic is congested.

Morning's are usually fine on the hwy as it's usually people who take it daily and understand "the rules".

But I find myself getting frustrated too easily when i'm hwy driving at other times and the amount of dumb people out there.

I don't mind you going slow in the fast lane so long as you're going faster than the right lane and change lanes when you get a chance to let me by... But when you just stay there, gah.

These COULD apply, but it doesn't mean a ticket...

Slow driving

145 (1) A person must not drive a motor vehicle at so slow a speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law.

(2) If the driver of a motor vehicle is driving at so slow a speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, a peace officer may require the driver to increase his or her speed, or to remove the motor vehicle from the roadway to the nearest suitable place and to refrain from causing or allowing the motor vehicle to move from that place until directed to do so by a peace officer.

(2) The driver of a vehicle proceeding at less than normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing must drive the vehicle in the right hand lane then available for traffic, or as closely as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or when preparing for a left hand turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

which means that if he chooses to go 90km/h in a 90km/h zone, he's allowed to do so in order to comply with the law, even if everyone else is going faster.

in the situation i have given, many people replies are basically saying, the person should go back in the right lane because its the law and just let the other person speed even though its breaking the law.
yea i agree on the part that its a jerk move if the person is doing it purposely.

For myself, if there is a flow of traffic i just follow it and i dont really care about right/left lanes b/c seriously 90% of the time there is no keep right in vancouver... everyone is on both lanes anyway. now if the left lane is clear and a few cars on the right lane within sight, i usually just stay on left lane until someone comes close up behind, then ill move to right.

If the reason one is driving in the left lane at the speed limit is to prevent others from over-speeding, then I believe that it is wrong. You are not a cop and it is not your job to enforce the law. Leave that to the "professionals".

A little more clear

A person is staying on the left lane for his comfort at the maximum speed limit and knew that it was illegal to do so, why should he move over for the person behind him that also wants to break the law?
Given the situation, the outcome is one of them is going to break the law anways
so then, isnt it tolerable that the person does not move to right lane? eitherway. the concluston is that one of them will be breaking the law
Therefore, if one is doing the maximum speed limit, might as well stay in the left lane?

Are people that want to speed have priority in breaking tha law?

That is the most fucked up logic I've heard in a while.

Assuming the car behind hasn't already passed the person driving the maximum posted speed limit on the left lane, it's just pure etiquette and manners to not be blocking/holding up traffic in the left lane.

No, there is no "priority" list of laws to break, but at least when somebody speeds, they're not pissing anybody off (assuming they're not constantly cutting people off) Whereas if somebody is in a rush, or itching to get somewhere and you decide to match the speed of the driver in the right lane, prepare to be tailgated like no tomorrow.

It's like asking "hey, can I not let that guy merge onto the highway?" Yes, you can, because its the traffic thats coming in who has to "Yield". But it's just common etiquette.

Like Luda says, laws aside, 10-20 over the limit is not a big deal. Safety-wise, what's a bigger deal if you hold up traffic and bunch everybody together because you want to be a hero when they could be spaced apart and everybody has buffer room in case shit happens.

Stop thinking in terms of black and white.

because it's simple logic, if your not passing somebody stay in the right lane like the rest of the sensible world does. Most places in the world that I've visited you'll get reemed by other motorists for cruising in the left lane..

/thread

ps i hate people who drive like this
