| Speeding in a school zone, then running
So I was in my friend's car the other day and we were rushing to school in the morning, and going up a hill my friend was going pretty fast. A school zone just started, I believe he was going around 60km/h at the time and then we saw a cop standing out on the road with a speed radar. My friend stepped heavy on the brakes, but ended up going 45km/h when we reached the cop. So of course the cop goes crazy, waves his arms in the air and signals us to turn left into the intersection he was standing by. My friend drives in, and the cop slowly followed by foot. Worse thing to do I think.. my friend just drives off and the cop didn't really follow. We did drive past his car that was parked in the intersection, faced towards us so does anyone know what would happen now?

Unless the cop was really off his game and didn't get your friend's license plate, your friend may be getting some very unwelcome mail soon.

nothing will happen to OP, the license plate belongs to his friend so unless his friend rats him out OP has nothing to worry about.

If he got the plate, he'll be around in person to follow up.

I always wrote the plate number down when waving a vehicle over...usually on the tear off top of the VT I was about to issue. If the driver failed to stop or took off like your friend did I always followed it up...admitting to going double the limit or more in a school zone, is plain stupid. Running away after being ordered to stop is brainless. I would be issuing tickets for every observed violation...including fail to obey directions of a Police officer and likely excessive speed if it was over 70k...and doing the impound if it was more than 41 k over. Your buddy chooses to drive like a jerk. I would not choose to be in a vehicle that he is driving..as he has already shown you, if he gets into any trouble he will run and that can lead to all sorts of big trouble.

This is one of the amusing things I find here in Canada. Back home, if a car runs away from the police, they not only can but WILL ventilate the car.
I'd be surprised if your friend gets off of this one. Most officer I know have a very good memory. Driving off will set off all kinds of alarm bells in his head. He very likely didn't follow because he already had the plate or something.

I think it's really sad you're laughing that your friend drove off.
This isn't funny it's really stupid and it's people like your friend that are making the roads worse for everyone else. If he can't make a smart decision in that situation, and I mean by driving even remotely close to the limit in a SCHOOL ZONE, I hope darwin claims him next and cleans up the gene pool.
Or who knows, I hope he remembers this if Karma comes around and his kids get hit by a car by some dumb kid late for school.
Why do I think you're taking this lightly? Use of "ha ha, LOL" really isn't appropriate with what your friend did.
Please grow up, both of you.

Although he was the passenger, is he liable for any consequences? Posted via RS Mobile |

It would depend on what might happen...if there was some sort of incident and it was proved that a passenger did some thing like encourage the driver to run, then the passenger would be a party to the offence as an abettor and would share in any guilt and punishment. In the case stated here, none of that has been admitted or suggested.
