really? im pretty sure you have to have km/h on the speedo for it to pass (the mb c class for example only has mph no km/h underneath), thats why you have to change it out with a km/h one

As long as you can display it digitally in kph they will let it pass.

To those who are wondering why I'm considering 2WD, well, one, my mom likes driving tall vehicle (coming from a van), so it's merely a preference. But the main thing is, I don't think 4WD is necessary, a set of snow tire always trump any system. So since I'm going to get a set of snow tire, I rather save that $3000 by getting a 2WD version.

Just to clarify, I'm comparing a US CRV 2WD EX-L to a CAN CRV 4WD EX-L. I know there's a difference in system, but since I feel I don't need the 4WD (it's a must in Canada to get leather trim), I feel like I'm paying $3000 for nothing.

But the feeling I'm getting from most people is since it's merely $3000, I might as well just forget about importing it and just get it here in Canada instead.

Out of interest, how much would a 3rd party warranty cost?

Thanks all

^$2500-$3500 for a 2010 Gold Wrap plan.

And the 2wd will fall in value a lot more than the 4wd up here....

^Thanks for the info

I don't know of any 3rd party warranty company, so I had no idea it would be this expensive. Nor did I know that 2WD will fall in value a lot more.

Side question:

How much do winter tires degrade over the course of a year of storage?

If I don't get the CR-V this year, that'll mean next fall, which means I'm still stuck with the Sienna for the winter.

Sienna - 16"
CR-V - 17", but tirerack said I can run 16" with a higher profile

I can buy the set of winter and steelies for the CRV, and pick up a used pair of winter for the Sienna, mount it on the steelie for the CRV, and use it for the winter. I'm just wondering should I take that risk and let my winter tire for the CRV sit for a year before actually using them.

2008 s2k USA $23-26000
2008 s2k USA $24-26,000

I couldn't find any 2009's so I used 2008.... I figured the ones worth more would have more of a difference between usa/canada prices....

Don't forget to ad duty, inspection and all that jazz to the us models, plus no warranty. But I mean hey, at least he was close thinking you could save 15-20k....

Edit: and heres the 2007's from Canada
Roughly $22-$24,000 minus the idiot asking 32k

And don't try to come back and say well when they were new you could save 15gs... cuz flagella clearly said if you buy an s2k you can save 15-20 grand.....
Basically 2 s2ks in that link with repeated advertisements. They are cheap because they are most likely imported from US. There's no way you'll find it that cheap if it's a local car. If you are looking for used local 2009 s2k, it'll be well over 40+, while in the states the used 09 is prob around 30k max.

i wouldnt bother paying for a 3rd party warranty, if anything major goes wrong just drive or have it towed to a dealer across the border. It might be a hassle but it could save you 3k for a warranty you may never use.

In fact instead of having it towed all the way to a dealer if you needed to, you could just get it towed across the border and then call up roadside assistance and they should tow it the rest of the way.

Huh, you raised a good point there. I need to check that my warranty is not going to be voided if I import to Canada. However, even then, it's still a hassle since the dealership would be really really far.

Now, that got me wondering if that 3k is worth it for 4WD. Knowing that I'm going to put winter tires on, 4WD is just added bonus. On the other hand, Jgresch did mention that 2WD depreciates more quickly than 4WD.

I finally found an 09. its $37,800. And if you say the 09s in the states go for $30,000~ Thats about 8 grand. Minus duty, minus inspection, minus any modifications needed, minus any warranty, minus any inspections failed (emission safety etc). You aren't looking at much difference... maybe 4 grand at the most? not really anywhere near the 15-20 grand you said earlier...

I am pretty sure that the resell value on 2WD will depreciate a lot more than 4WD. Even Honda or Toyota they do not sell that many of 2WD, 2WD is actually special order in most case...How many people actually put snow tires on their SUV in Vancouver area? not so many. A lot of people are buying SUV just because they can save the hassle/money to purchase snow tires since Vancouver doesn't have that big of snow (yeah, other than 2 years ago).

If you are selling the vehicle later, buyer will low ball you since it's US import because everyone is thinking you saved 10-15g at beginning, why are you selling the same price to local vehicle

For 3g or even 4g saving, plus downgrade, like everyone said, just buy it here....

IMO as long as the saving is less than 10G....just buy it here.....All the hassle, time, inspection, warranty and resale value will break even especially on a brand new vehicle.

Just my 0.02

i got a tsx in the states, it was cheaper, and got navi etc, but imo if u are saving 3g-5g, is not worth it. warr. will be hassel to deal with. specially if ur buying new.

i have to go down to the states for warranty repair and recalls.
