Unless you're talking retrofit. | Aiming and not selling someone stupid 8K plus bulbs.
Just last night on my way home I was followed by a car with HID's and yes they were blinding me guess what they were stock HID's. People need to get over this stigma of aftermarket HID's blinding oncoming traffic its not only aftermarket ones that do it. I find douchecanoes driving around everywhere with their hibeams on are more of a problem then HID's.

you guys realize that as you work up the light spectrum from 4300k, the light output is less... 4300k/5000k/6000k are brighter than 8/10 etc...
And @ philrise, even if you aim the bulb in the reflector basically straight at the ground, there will still be light that goes above where the cutoff line should be, into drivers eyes...
Highbeams are obviously worse, duh. But we are not talking about driver error, we are talking about using HIDs without the correct headlight type.

your right we're not talking about driver error
we're talking (or supposed to be) about OP wanting HID's for his fog lights

If you're going to go aftermarket hid, get a retrofit. So you aim them downwards? Great, you sacrifice distance for "safety". Aim it downwards all you want. The only thing you create is the illusion of brightness.
Make no mistake. This is not an attack on your character. Just on your understanding of pnp kits.

Make no mistake. This is not an attack on your character. Just on your understanding of pnp kits. | Yes aim them slightly more downwards
Aiming them slightly more downwards will negate a small percentage of the benefit they offer but they are still a vast improvement and offer higher visibility with less blinding effect of Halogen Hi Beams. Secondly when the Hi Beam function of his PnP HID's is activated the bulbs are less shrouded and that completely counteracts the effects of aiming the housings down slightly (win win for everybody unless he's a pissed redneck and decides to tailgate someone and flash his highs). More to the point his Driving lights which the OP is questioning remained aimed in a fashion as to allow long range lighting and are to be used on open (empty) roads where long range lighting is essential and safe.

I find it hard to believe that you put HID's in halogen reflector housing with no glare, and I will trust factory engineered and tested units over some retrofit, regardless of the quality of your work. Factory HID's have a sharp cutoff that you just can't duplicate in halogen housings, and definitely not by "just aiming them slightly downwards".

I have noticed that quite a few OEM HID do have glare. Strange as I figured the engineering standards would prevent that. I haven't noticed it on my car, but then it has multiple lenses to direct the light where it is more useful. |

honda civics and corolla/matrix's driving around with highbeams on are so damn annoying.
i find that the newer cars w/ hids these days are coming out with projectors that are really efficient, they really light up the road compared to my old tech hids on the gs. they still blind, just not as bad as cars with aftermarket hids w/ stupid blue hid bulbs. i find the blue tinge color more annoying than the glare. a lot of gs guys do the retrofit of the q45 cannon projector mods. they look pretty nice, but i find the light output isnt as good as a single good projector. i got the chance to look at them, compared side to side to someone that did a ls430 projector retrofit. Quote:

Thats a damn cool lens. Theres lots of factory equipped HID's that offer a fair amount of glare. I don't think most of the HID haters get that and assume they are all poor quality PnP kits.
Bandwagons extend beyond........ GO CANUCKS!!!

Judging from pictures (since they're not local). I think the LS430 is the best.

The Q45 distributes light quite well thus nearly no glare at all. I noticed that many other projectors have more glare and seem to be brighter, might be to do with their size as there is only so much you can do with the lens and reflectors being smaller. Tho on the later 05/06 Q45, Infiniti added another lamp under the the projectors, an Active AFS lamp. The earlier models also had a driver adjustable projector height switch.

Nice cut-off. I remember seeing that car on HID Planet. The cut-off is still sharp, even 100 ft ahead of it.
