Great observations DickDunc3, yes the front looks pretty solid but it screams 1995 to me.

Yeah, totally.
I still don't get it.
Hasn't Honda has traditionally does amazingly well with the Civic?
- pretty decent factory looks
- affordable
- modability

I never really understood the current gen civics either. They turned them into family cars.
Maybe that's their strategy? Use a well recognized name that the parents of new families grew up with, tap into that market with a car that now fits their needs.

Still, I don't think the Fit is going to step up and take the Civic's old crown.

Such a shame.

I never really considered a Civic, but if the CRZ was it, I might have just had to take the bite.

Oh well, too bad.

lol the civic had a great opportunity to beat the new 3 in terms of look, but guess not.

8th gen ftw (coupe only imo, unless it's csx).

The Civic has always been a family car, but it was a lean, efficient, and reliable one with quality craftmanship and materials, a high-tech suspension (double wishbones on 4 corners), and engines that loved to rev. Today's Civic may still be reliable, but it does not embody any of those other qualities.

I've said this many times before, but I'll repeat it again - Honda is no longer the company we grew up with. Many enthusiasts have said that Honda's golden age was between 1986 and 1995 and I would tend to agree with that. Honda's last cars that reflected Honda's raison d'etre were the last generation Prelude and S2000. Hondas today are souless at best and at worst, they reflect our society's general ineptitude and laziness.

I say this as a proud owner of the first VTEC B-series car in North America - the DB2.

I say 1995 because the Acura division went to shit after that. The Legend was a terrific car, and the Vigor was half decent too (probably the most European car Honda produced.) I don't need to say anything about the original NSX.

The EG Civic was ahead of anything else at the time. The DC2 was a pretty damn good car too (though I'm of course partial to my DB2.)

The majority of the public are more concerned about re sale value, safety, fit and finish, dependability and so on. Stylng is a factor , but come on , in that compact class , theirs no obvious leader. Current gen civics are okay, mazda3 hate it or love it, corrola blah, focus blah, accent blah, sentra blah.

My point being, styling is not a major factor in that class.

It's a symptom of age, I'm afraid. It happens to everyone - 10 years from now you'll complain about how good cars were in the old days.

All kidding aside, if you actually compare the cars Honda was producing at the time to other manufacturers, there was really no comparison.
