Can you negotiate a deal with phone companies when your new?

Im out of a contract with fido and they cannot seem to offer me anything better than this (talked to retention)

$17.50
250 min.
Unlimited EV/Wek (start at 5pm)
$30
6GB Data
$10
Caller ID/ Voicemail/ 2500 text

----

With that being said, I may try to look for a new company to go with, I cant go with Wind because I cannot have spotty reception and I do live out in Langley.

Is it posible for me to go to rogers/bell/telus and see if I can negotiate a deal with them or is what I see on their websites the only thing I will be able to go for?

What about independent authorized dealers? do they have their own plans? I seem to remember some in metrotown or those chinese places that offer cheaper plans??

Thanks in advance guys

You can with Bell. But don't expect to keep the same plan once your contract is up. They won't give you anything better and will force you to take an in market plan that they offer at that time.

I have the same $17.50 plan but with free CiD and Voicemail. I also just added the flex data plan.

I'm pretty sure if you knew how to correctly negotiate and if you get the right rep, you can get what I got. Or better =D

Oh fido2fido too

This and many other questions similar to this have all been answered in the multiple retention threads.

Also, you can see all the other options you can get while on retentions via other members.

You're probably not gonna get better buy signing a new contract somewhere else. This plan was offered as a retention plan because you're an existing customer. I doubt switching to a new provider they're just gonna drop their prices just like that.

just never mention that you are going with rogers, cuz essentially they are under the same group of companies

mention telus/bell/wind...and be extra nice and remind them how good a paying customer you have been over the years and see if they can give you a break

Thanks for the replies guys, CRS, I have checked in with the retention threads before posting, the specific question I had was weather I could get a better deal by negotiating with other companies, but I think the best way is to negotiate with Fido.

I have been with them for 6 years I think and the last time I negotiated with them was very easy, told them what I was willing to pay and what I needed to have and they gave me a deal pretty close to that. This time Im jsut getting tired of being jerked around by their retention department.

Offering me the 17.50 plan is essentially just letting me have the EPP plan they had going a while back and adding 50 min/early evening and weekends. The 30GB plan just ended as well so its not like they are giving me anything extra yet they are acting all high and mighty about it. Add insult onto injury, the current 5 dollers credit I have for my 10 dollar value pack is getting taken away and they wont put it on again this time.

Im not the greatest at negotiating, but I have been nothing but polite, and I have never missed a bill throughout the 6 years. I think im just gonna tell the CSR im canceling if they cannot match some of the negotiated plans ive seen on here.

why do you even think you can get something similar to retention deal as a new customer with other companies? retention are only offered to ppl that have been with them for a while.. i wouldn't even bother mentioning other company is giving you a better deal that's better than ur retention as a new customer.. coz they know you are bsing. you'll never get offered 17.50 epp plans by any other company as a brand new customer.. otherwise.. every customer will switch every few yrs to new companies and ask for retention plans rite away. i hope you haven't called in multiple times yet.. coz if that's the case.. your account is probably flagged and you won't even bother negociating with you.

Well it also depends on how much $$ you've spent with them in the past. If you've been with them for awhile and have been using something better than the basic plan then they have room to move. Don't expect to get kickass plans like the ones you've seen on here for sure as you can't compare really as you don't know other users background.

Did I say I'm mentioning other companies giving me a better deal than what retention was offering? No. I said other people have been getting better retention deals from Fido.
Never did I say other companies was offering me the 17.50 plan. All I was comparing was certain retention plans other people have gotten and I was asking if I had a chance for lower prices with other providers. Doesnt hurt to ask a question on here does it?

Valid point.

I would just stick to negotiating a better deal. It seems like you should be able to get the value pack completely credited like others have. Just say how you are in a financial binding and how you're looking to keep your plan the same but somehow work on how to lower it and you would be willing to sign on if you they could reduce your price but keep the same plan.
