Meaning I can wash the rice inside the pot itself, and clean it with something harder than sponge when needed and it would stay the same way for years and years.

The fancy one from factory is probably better as far as cooking the rice goes, but if you don't use it gently, it starts to peel off little pieces in no time and it's pita (to find one) and $$$ to replace. Hence the switch.

I wash the rice in a plastic rice washing bowl designed for washing rice. They're cheap and have slits for water to spill out of. The bottom has raised nubs to make washing the rice easier.

I will post pic if I can find one. I got them from a shop on Powell Street next to Sunrise Market. My old stomping grounds. I'm sure they sell them at just about any Asian market.

EDIT: Found one........

Hope the whisky is as good as the bottle.

Anyway, anyone know where I can get this particular item? It is used for warming pancakes or tortillas. Locally as in anywhere in the Lower Mainland, Lower Fraser Valley, and Northern Washington.

I saw them at Costco Bellingham used by the freebie, sample people. Asked them where to get them and they gave me a few places to go, but no luck. Can get it on-line, but shipping costs, even to Blaine costs money.

There are lots of tortilla warmers on the market, but this one is the perfect size to be used as a rice warmer (Ohitsu). Proper rice warmers are 3 times the cost or more and most are too small.

I would love to get the traditional wooden ones, but too expensive and maintenance is too time consuming for everyday use.

^thanks, but too shallow to be used as rice warmer.

Plus, they're a dime a dozen down in the US. Amuricans love their Mexican food.

You need to find the part number for the pot first, and if you bought it in Canada, call Panasonic Canada and see where you could order a replacement. However, it can be $$$ from my exp.

My Zoji had some fancy stuff on its pot and when I was looking, the CDN subsidiary didn't have that model here, but they said the particular mode was 12000yen+shipping (roughly 100USD) in Japan, which didn't make any sense because the whole unit cost me 3xxxx yen when I bought it.

If you want the same replacement I got, you need to have someone coming from Taiwan or in Taiwan to mail it to you. The brand is Buffalo and they offer a wide variety of models and it's about 80USD when I got mine. You can find them:

?????? ??????????$- ???????????? - ????

They do have a rep in USA, but I don't see them offering the replacement pots, so chances are they didn't bring it over, but you could try calling them.

If any of you are looking for replacement parts for your small appliances (Rice cooker, blender,coffee/espresso machine etc), pm me and i can point you in the right direction. Not sure if i would break any rules regarding advertising openly posting here because i am/was affiliated with the company.

Better safe than sorry. Having said that, I don't think we have any RS sponsors in that area, so I can't see why not.

ken24 12-16-2016 10:46 AM

Haha just being on a bit safer side so i don't break any of the rules. Didn't want to openly post the business just because of my relation so might seem i was openly advertising them. On another note sometimes buying a inner pot for a rice cooker might not be worth the $$$. In some case depending on the model, the inner pot cost almost as much as 80% of a new rice cooker. If it's a stainless steel or special coated inner pot not just Teflon i suggest just looking into a new rice cooker instead.

Can anybody recommend a brand/style of mouse traps?

A rodent (I'm assuming a mouse/rat, haven't seen it yet) has taken refuge in the warmth of my garage and is chewing up stuff that I have stored in there. It has got to go.

godwin 12-18-2016 01:30 PM

Any trap (Glue / mechanical).. you just need to right bait.. a big dab of peanut butter.

With all the technology at our disposal, we still can't get rats under control. We have Roomba's and iRobots to do dumb things. I want to see a robot that lurks in the garage with infrared sensors and armed with phasers/disrupters or better yet, mini transporters (for the PETA supporters). Send them off to a Klingon outpost or a nearby battlecruiser. The Trouble with Tribbles episode comes to mind. :lawl:

Anyway, glue traps work really well. Inhumane, but it is what it is. Set them near any openings against a wall. Corners are good.

On the advice of a fellow RS'er, I installed the electronic high pitch stuff in the garage, and it seems to keep the buggers out. Once they get in, it's too late - glue trap it is.

I used to have rats and shit living under the hood of my truck. Cost me 300 bucks to get an O2 sensor harness replaced. After that, I installed one of them high pitch things and haven't had any problems since. I have the thing strapped in the engine bay and plugged into a heater block extension cord making sure wires were properly secured and away from any moving parts or heat sources. I plug that in when parked out back overnight.

I also set up a live trap in the back yard to catch squirrels. Loaded a paper plate with peanut butter and peanuts and set the trap. The next day, I caught a pretty big rodent/rat. I took the cage to Squint Lake and released it. My neighbour is like WTF? I had a Buddhist moment. What can I say? Neighbour goes, "The rat's going to come back, LOL."

Next time, I'll get the neighbour to pop it in the head or drown it.

godwin 12-18-2016 03:47 PM

Rats are smarter than any AI we have right now. Not to mention they have way better dexterity.
