Does anyone know where I can find Nori sheets to make Onigiri?

Overseas Auto1 07-20-2017 04:00 PM

https://www.google.ca/search?q=Nori+...eets+vancouver

amazon.ca and walmart.ca what about that place on Clark and Venables?

WD-40 07-20-2017 08:26 PM

Fujiya!

One of our RS members works there, I think.

They have all kinds of stuff to make awesome onigiri. Ajitsuke nori is the most common type of nori used by the Japanese. You can use regular nori too. Half a temaki sheet which is a half sheet of regular sized nori. Just cut it up. You can put pickled vegetables or pickled plums in the middle of the onigiri. My favourite is miso mixed with katsuo bushi (bonito flakes). The ultimate is to use tororo or oboro konbu instead of sushi or ajitsuke nori.

you could also try Konbiniya on Robson, I think I remember seeing some nori sheets there. Across from the drinks iirc.

Thanks!

Been trying to recreate the magic that is Japanese Onigiri. I went to TnT but they only have snack sized seaweed sheets. I was thinking of Fujiya, but wasn't sure if they had them. I'll definitely check those places out.

Man! I didn't even think of miso with bonito flakes. Totally going to try that.

I've been thinking of making salted salmon filling, it seems pretty straight forward.

you can also try foody world in richmond as they have a selection of japanese ingredients as well

Anyone seen cheap glass pitchers locally? Or a bit fancier plastic ones?

Dragon-88 07-24-2017 11:03 AM

I dont know where to start but I need to buy a fishing knife as a gift for a bday.

Where would I start? What am I looking for? Is a fishing knife the same as a filet knife?

TIA

The last time I was at Costco in the US, I purchased Lay's White Cheddar, Poppables. So good. Do they have them up here in Canada?

Where can I buy decent falafel's? I used to buy Pita's brand falafel's from Superstore or No Frills and they were good, but I can't find them anymore. The Costco ones are absolute shit.

Anywhere in Vancouver or Burnaby would be great. Willing to drive for good falafel!

When I was looking for flooring, most places that sold flooring had samples. A few I remember off the top of my head:
Vancouver Mouldings and Floors (Vancouver Laminate Flooring and Hardwood Flooring
King of Floors https://www.kingoffloors.com/

I ended up buying my laminate flooring fromYaletown Floor but I'm sure they stock engineered hardwood. Not too sure if they have samples since the shop is more of a "showroom" but worth giving them a shot. Vancouver Yaletown Floor store - flooring service Vancouver & Burnaby , North Vancouver, Coquitlam Area as Flooring Specialist

The local Home Depot and Rona also has plenty of floors and samples
