^damnit, I was excited that the resident senior Japanese guy linked something... I've been duped.

MG1 11-26-2020 09:04 AM

I'm Hawaiian/Polynesian with Japanese background, but yeah.............. sorry to disappoint.

The link, I thought, would give you some info on the history of tea. My wife's uncle grows and cultivates tea in the mountains of Japan. His family, for generations, produced tea that was one of the very few selected to be served at the Imperial Palace. It's not sold on the market and is amongst the best of the best, as far as Japanese green tea is concerned. Years ago, my mother in law received a small sample of this precious tea. Apparently, a very labour intensive process. Anyway, I'm no tea specialist, but it was unforgettable. Definitely not your run of the mill stuff. Not sure if it was even prepared perfectly, but it was intense in flavour and very "pure" for lack of a better word.

As for locally, you are limited to where you can get genuine Japanese green tea. Fujiya carries the run of the mill stuff. Some "higher end". You can find interesting green teas at Granville Island Tea Company. https://granvilletea.com/28-green-tea

Maybe give Darumaya a call. Green tea of high quality is not a thing these days. Not even in Japan.

Shop

It also depends on what kind of person you are wanting to give the tea to. All kinds of purpose teas. Sencha, mugicha, hojicha, bancha, genmaicha, etc.

Saved the best for last............

Damn, I have to go check this place out. People have told me about this place, but never gave it a second thought. Maybe it's time to get off the Diet Coke thing and go the complete opposite direction. Can antioxidants in green tea offset decades of soda abuse?

Maybe start a new thread called, "Tea - how do you drink it and why?"

Also best green tea is from yunnan China, I prefer black tea tho

David's Tea is BS. Don't even think about it.

Go to a good local tea shop and ask for recommendations.

StylinRed 11-26-2020 10:51 AM

A friend swears by them so I got lured into buying my black teas there :lol but I find em to be way too pricey

I don't know enough about it, and Tetley's doesn't seem like the right tea to give to an older Japanese person...lol.

It's a gift, looking to spend ~$75 for a reasonable amount (say, 30 cups or so).

Weekly import from Japan

Just went to Aberdeen and picked up the Tsuen!

Thanks everyone

crochet pokemon dolls

Learn how to crochet kit. Something along the lines of these ones. Can't find anything local and everything online seems to be sold out. There's plenty of books that show you how to start, but I'm looking for a kit that has all the supplies needed to make the doll.

MG1 11-26-2020 01:46 PM

I’m at Guilford because I can............ passed by Old Navy. They’re having Black Friday 50% off everything sale.

I do not shop there. I’m above that, lol. All week long, apparently. I got my second set of car fresheners at Bath and Body Works, got my free drink at A&W, took in the view, now off to Princess Auto and say hi to my buddies at Lee Valley Tools. The place that sells overpriced junk to yuppies. Hondaracer’s favourite place.

It's not banned in the US. That family member passed away a few years ago. If the borders weren't closed, I would go to Uwajimaya in Seattle...............

I'll call these folks to see what they can do. Price wise, a little on the high side.

You're right but I think it has been unbanned. Friend said they have seen it at Fujiya and Izumiya before.

MG1 11-27-2020 12:41 PM

Better go gif me some before they change their minds. Thanks.

MG1 11-27-2020 01:33 PM

Nope. Called Fujiya. No hijiki. No news articles saying hijiki is unbanned.

Hondaracer 11-27-2020 03:51 PM

Any gardeners know when I can get Neem Meal?

Where can i get
https://i5.walmartimages.ca/images/E...9119350759.jpg
very rare now, only in burnaby in walmart ... which is getting hard to get.

MG1 11-29-2020 10:23 AM

Those are my favourite. They are also part of the party mix that Humpty Dumpty produces. That's how I discovered them years ago. I would pick through the mix and eat them all at the same time. Then give the rest to the kids.......... this was years ago. Then, I guess they discovered how popular it became and offered just the Ringalos alone. At least that's my theory and I'm sticking with it.

Back to the question. No Frills and sometimes Superstore. I will post if I come across them, 'cause I'm craving them now. Damn...............

MG1 11-29-2020 10:30 AM

Got me a zippo lighter as part of a promo. It's a lighter fluid type. I'm loving it. I did some research and found out they sell inserts. Arc and butane type. Where is the best place to get the inserts locally? Must be original Zippo brand.

I don't smoke. I used to smoke two to three packs a day, but no longer. I'm into incense and candles now, sad. Anyhow, I'm also looking for those long Arc candle lighters. Not the cheap shit, but a good one.

I find my self playing with the lighter. Love the flame. Pretty soon, I'm gonna start burning shit up............. Maybe that's why I like to watch the log fire channel. BTW, is it on again?

Sorry, it's no longer available. It was a Hard Rock promo clearout, plus free this and that. Shipping took forever. From Sweden, of all places. Like WTF?

Fucking hell, man. Lots of party mix ones but no Ringalos at Grandview Hwy Suerstore. I didn’t even know the party mixes come in two flavours.

I drove by the No Frills on Broadway, but had no reason to go in. I’m charging at the Grandview Hwy. location.

unit 12-07-2020 02:20 PM

i know i could buy this, but does anybody have a large TV box that they no longer need?
i'm going to use it to hold art prints, so they can be stored flat under my bed with some protection. my largest print is 40" x 34", so it would probably have to be at least a 65" tv box.

twitchyzero 12-07-2020 02:29 PM

not many would keep a box that size except for weirdo likes me but it's buried under so much stuff in storage

try visions bestbuy home depot etc that probably have to junk big boxes often
