Anywhere I can buy a few lbs of R410A refrigerant?

Dad's cabin's mini split needs to be refilled as we screwed up with the valve last time. I have the tool, but it seems that in order to buy R410A, you need to be a pro (whatever that means)?

I thought about having someone relatively local to the cabin to go out there. But it's a bit too long of a drive for such a small job and no one was willing to take the job. So, it has to be DIY'd as the cabin is quite remote.

Don't need much... the whole unit would take just over 2lbs and I don't think we leaked that much. So, maybe a 2 or 5lbs tank.

You can buy it in 28oz bottles in the USA, I've seen it before... but it's fucking expensive... like $120+ a bottle

Hehe 03-08-2024 10:46 AM

^
I read that too.

But the problem seems to be bringing across the border without an Environment Canada certification of some sort.

That's why I'm trying to source locally if at all possible.

68style 03-08-2024 10:53 AM

Dude... just smuggle it, it ain't drugs or guns :D

None of those clownshoes are going to even know what it is if they did see it.

Trader Joes > border > "Just some groceries and gas" > You at your cabin re-filling 410 with a satisfied grin

i can picture hehe talking to the border agent now :lol

are you able to buy it online and pay to have it shipped from the US? i imagine if it's OK to ship you'll just have to pay a duty etc.?

What kind of a fucking Asian has a remote cabin ?!?!? :heckno:

You need a "Environment Certificate in CFC/HCFC/HFC"

Thats because most refrigerants are hazardous to the planet, 410A has a 2000 global warming potential ( carbon dioxide has a "1" potential)

Daddy government does not want dummies refilling leaky shitty units

To answer your question, call up hvac companies around you, you will eventually find one that will sell you a leftover tank illegally. They come 25lbs from our suppliers

would it make you feel better if it was a front for a lab?

Badhobz 03-08-2024 02:44 PM

Like breaking dimsum? They would only have a cabin in a remote forest location if they were out growing / hunting for those lucrative mushrooms that sell for 1000 bucks a kg.

The kind who's willing to spend some dough to have his private stretch of water and land so he can fish without other people.

That's literally what my dad said when I asked him "why do you want to buy this again?"

"So I can fish by myself without someone breaking my zen. Fishing is a delicate thing, you know, son?"

:fuckthatshit:

Badhobz 03-08-2024 07:22 PM

What kinda fucking Asian fishes ?!?!?!?!?

Mikoyan 03-08-2024 07:47 PM

Asians that don't want to pay for fish.

I was in my 20's before I realized why my Dad stopped taking my brother and I fishing after we turned 16. The free saltwater/freshwater license for kids ended at 16. He never paid for a license and everything he/we caught was under ours.

EvoFire 03-08-2024 09:22 PM

^ How do you tell me you are Asian without telling me you are Asian :lol

Lol the type I see at new Brighton. When I used to have 4-5 days off a week I’d walk down to new Brighton and have a beer and smoke a joint on the water I’d often see people fishing who obviously were trying to avoid any attention etc

Occasionally they’d walk back past me as there were only a few paths back up and I’d ask them if they caught anything. Most couldn’t even understand what I was asking until I pointed at their 5 gallon Home Depot bucket and they’d show me 4-5 bull heads and mud sharks they pulled out

Couldn’t pay me $1000 to eat that shit :lol

nothing pisses me off more than seeing those fuckers with undersize and female dungeness crab.

Bahaha... this is so true.

Whenever we are in the supermarket for fish, my dad would be like "get whatever, just don't get salmon and trouts. You can get those for free by fishing".

And there was I, standing there with a bagged salmon filet.

@donk

Ok, going to start calling around. Any lead on source who are less *careful* about the stock levels? :fuckthatshit:

donk. 03-09-2024 03:14 PM

Looking for brick staining products, preferably the powdered stuff that you add water too.

I'm looking for a place to send packages in the lower mainland. I don't want to rent a post office box, looking for a business similar to the places in Point Roberts and Blaine, pay a few bucks for them to receive it.

Have you looked into FlexDelivery by Canada Post?

https://www.canadapost-postescanada....xdelivery.page

It's a free service where you basically get a shipping address at the nearby post office. You get a notification when your stuff comes in, and then you go pick it up.

bcrdukes 06-03-2024 08:16 PM

This.

UPS allows you to ship to a local UPS store for pickup. I'm unsure of FedEx though.

GIZZ 06-03-2024 08:29 PM

Thanks, I just signed up for the Canada Post Flex Delivery. It says to make sure they will ship to a PO box, I'll have to figure out how they send stuff from Asia.
