It might actually be feasible to run SkyTrain a bit later on Friday/Saturday nights, then start a bit later Saturday/Sunday mornings... maybe you should suggest that to TransLink, instead of here?
I don't think anyone is actually suggesting people move downtown just so they can party... it's more a matter of setting priorities. If you're deciding whether to live in the burbs or close to downtown or all-night transit routes, you have to consider a lot of factors, including your party habits. If it's REALLY THAT important to be able to party late-night downtown, then yes, maybe one SHOULD consider somewhere closer to town. If it's a lower priority though, then make the decision to live further out accordingly... but don't complain about it later.

^ exactly. or whatever mix they can do.
I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. I'm simply implying, that giving a bit more options for ppl to get home on the weekends, can translate to a safer city, safer partygoers, etc.
Mind you, this can also apply to just ppl out at a bar having a few, not enough to get shitfaced, but still over limit.

If one wants to go downtown, you should just move there? C'mon, that's not a realistic expectation. We live at the places we live in mostly due to cost, environment, work, circumstances, etc. If that means to dictate where we can or cannot go to enjoy ourselves, or just out for dinner/concert, then how is that right? Also, there is simply NO WAY everyone who wants to live near/in downtown to actually be able to FIT around downtown. There simply isn't enough space. | And I apologize as well, as I didn't really mean it so bluntly. There are many factors surrounding where you live. I know people making different amounts of money living in different places.
I have friends who don't make much money, working $10-15 an hour, living in the westend. They rent out smaller older apartments, and some are living pay cheque to pay cheque. But for them, it's a lifestyle. They choose to live downtown because, it's convenient for them to go to work (they don't need a car), they can party and walk home.
I know people who are making more money, not working downtown (working in Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey), and STILL living downtown. They can afford it a bit more, but commuting wise - it makes no sense. But in the end, they really do value the lifestyle of living in the downtown core. They like that they can stay out late and walk home.
I know people who are buying a new house, in the mid 20's, having lived in Vancouver all their life, but buy a house in Surrey, Langley. They value having a larger home, that is more permanent. They know that it is inconvenient for them to go partying downtown, and they don't care.
People live in different places, prioritize differently. What I'm upset about, is that even if we were to open the skytrain longer, it still doesn't service a majority of people. People still might have to pay $30-$50 for a taxi ride from the skytrain, or maybe even more. and yes, people will ride it, but being night time (off-peak), and knowing that skytrains are expensive to run, I don't know where they will get this money from. I just don't want to see fares go up, if it means running the skytrain for another few hours.

I know this may be too simple to actually work, but how about taking turns to be a DD? That way no cab fares, no sky train and you come and go when you want...and save money.

Party together!!
And jail together
On a serious note, with the 45 dollar breathalyzer device, its not the best idea but definitely not a dumb idea either. For most people what the hell is 0.05? I honestly don't know. And as far as how inaccurate it is, I'm sure it can give you a general reading it can't just NOT work at all lol. Posted via RS Mobile |

having a DD? Oh i know all about that.
Again, everyone knows, but for a long time.
What i was recommending was a new approach, since the current ones some ppl's so eager to push are not working that well.
I'm looking at this picture as a whole. Hoping it may catch someone's eye.
I'd love to recommend something to Translink, if someone would back me up.
If everyone used DD's all the time, and the DD's actually stayed Designated DRIVERS instead of turning into designated DRUNKS, then we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. I see it happen WAY too many times...
Just sayin.
