For the guys wondering how different tires work on different surfaces, check out this link.

I'll be winter mode this coming weekend, my tires are rock hard :(

how do snow/winter tires compare to All Seasons in the rain?

Do snow tires channel water as well as All seasons do?

Snow tires are generally better in the rain.

I'll be putting my winters on Thursday. I'll be going to cypress on Friday.

Just wondering when you guys put your winter tires on do you notice that the tires are louder then the all seasons or is it just me?

Good soundproofing on my car (740iL), but there is a slight difference. In my dad's chevy van, they are *loud*.

GodZilla 11-08-2011 04:20 AM

I have a 328xi AWD with Goodyear nordic snows and driving is a bit loud but when i start to slow thats when the sound increases.

17x9.5 Blizzaks 215/45. One of the best snow tires I have ever owned.
This is my third season. They're soft so there is a bit of camber wear but overall great tire.
Rip off buying it locally but from discount tire direct, it's the cheapest I've seen

Question..... for certain brand / models that "guarantee" you a set mileage...

How do they really know if you ran 10,000km? or 60,000km?
Or is it just a rough estimate / honest system?

Let me guess. Your grandmother was Jewish, your dad Chinese, and your step mother Indian. Put the three together and you have a cheap fuck.

Michelin implemented a new strategy whereby they guarantee their winters for a set mileage.

Yup, usually around 60,000km for tires like the X-Ice2
But obviously you don't run on these tires year round till they die.
You'll be switching them on and off every winter....so how do they "guarantee" that set mileage?

(Exaggerated example)
What if I only use the winter tires for 1000km each winter.
But 40 years and 40 winters later....they have only been used for 40,000km
and they are bald already......will Michelin tell me to gtfo? Or will they replace it?

If they were all season, and dealer installed. I guess that would be easier to keep track of the mileage from the date + odometer it was installed. And up till the day/mileage it dies. Assuming you haven't swapped the tires.
But for winter tires? How do they keep track? How do they "guarantee"?

Put some anti seize between the hub and the wheel and you're good.

Spread anti-seize over the hub before you put the rim on.

Before I did this I always had to pound the rim with a hammer to loosen it off the hub.

So I swapped to winter steelies ytd and today i already noticed rust building up ard the centre cap area...

What can I do to rub it off? And what can I spray on to prevent the orange rust?

Tia
