Replace them when you have cleaned your windshield and the wipers still streak. Like headlights, everyone's driving habits / patterns are different. If you leave your car outside, it will be much harder on them.

Honestly the best time to evaluate the state of your wipers is not now.. but when dry, warm and sunny, you can clean your windshield really well and you can make adjustments etc. The correct alignment of the blades makes a huge difference.

You don't have to spend huge amount of money on wipers.. eg my BMW OE wiper refills are ~$10 a pair? They take about 30 minutes to refill (cutting to size) then use an old toothbrush and some assembly grease to oil the joints and checking for straightness; no matter they are for my M5 or my e36 beater. The trick is to have 2 sets of blades, so you always have a set with new refills ready to go, when the pair on the car is worn out, you just swap them.

I put my 17's back on, they're fresh Continental DWS's anyways.

And if there is a random snow dump then I'm ready to put back on my winters.

them.
?? Never said they leave streaks on the windshield.. they squeal up and down the window because they are cheep shit from Canadian tire that i thought i on my jeep last year that worked good. And i dont know what you mean by the correct adjustments and alignment of your blades.... My car is a 1985 nissan, not to mention none of our 4 vehicles can be adjusted as far as i know
I put them on after i had cleaned and dried the car, and my car is almost always in the garage because i constantly maintain and upgrade parts.. Not much left to do now so i am building a new motor

The blades have to be pressed evenly by the arms, the blades also have to be right angle to the glass.. also the glass has to be clean to prevent squeals. Different brands of blades just have different chemical composition, some are more tolerant for dirt than others.. the difference hardly warrant one to be multiple in price vs others.

The blades get bent / distorted under normal driving condition... they have to be adjusted once a while.

There are crap loads of resources on the web to show you how to adjust the blades for optimal cleaning for your particular car model.

I was being sarcastic with my comment...

The lack of snow, and the abundance of rain.

But thanks for the wiper info

QFT

I drive 30+km each way to and from work and days like today where there's not even water on the ground hurt even more. I'm seriously considering putting my summers back on this weekend.

It hurts to change wheels/tires on my truck, so I'll leave my winter tires on for now. Each wheel/tire weighs about 120lbs. I don't even hear the studs over the engine noise.

I completely agree. The temperature high of 8c is just that, the warmest it will get. Drive at night and see how warm it is. Quite often these days I get off work and there is frost on my windshield. Another good clue to stick with the winter tires.

Yeah, fuck it. Taking the snows off.

Good thing I have "mid-season wheels/tires" which I use Oct-Nov and Mar-May. They're just my old winters that won't work well in slush and snow at 6.5/32nds but are still great in the cold.

What happened to this terrible winter that we were all told about? I swear its tire manufacturers paying the media to spread the fear of snow coming.

Winter is only 2 weeks in. I also didnt bother putting my winter tires on. I travel only 5kms to work from my house and my wife travels maybe 2kms..lol. Before when we had to travel across to bridges to work and back we had the winter tires on. But now we live so close to work and don't have to cross any bridges or hills we dont really need the winter rims unless it really snows.

i wanna put my summers back on too but, better safe then sorry guys! You don't wanna be stranded somewhere when you know how our weather is unpredictable. last year i was at movies, the day was clear and out of nowhere came out of the theatre, it was snowing and lemme tell you, it was a bitch driving home on the highway 30-40 km/h on summers. 10 below is good enough for me to keep the winters on. it'll give me excuse to buy new ones next year =D
