Or they have to all be the same size.

Some awd drive cars implode if you do that, P2 volvo chassis cars.

Hey,

I have a set of 205/50R/16 Winter Tires. Do you guys know where's the cheapest place to buy a set of steelies for them are?

Some people mentioned Sorat, any other places (I live in Surrey), also.. what's a good price range for the rims?

Tire rack sells rims for $85 US each

Thanks!

lilkulit 11-11-2010 02:31 AM

^whats the bolt pattern? There's a set of 16 steelies w/ 5x114.3 bolt pattern on CL.

I installed mine few nights ago, its been amazing, but i might trade it up.

wix 11-11-2010 03:01 AM

5x114.3 is the bolt pattern. For a 2003 Mazda Protege 5

That's a 2" height difference! (I think) It will look pretty funny, but can't be worse than having 2 pairs of mismatched all seasons, you'll probably get a really inaccurate speedometer,

Sure it can be worse. Now, you're not just varying traction front to rear, but you're also changing weight balance.

Yesterday morning was sooo cold! I'm glad I have my winter tires on already. :)

Careful buying used OEM wheels. Mazda has the largest centre bore (67.1mm) so Honda, Toyota and Nissan rims won't fit.

You either have to get Mazda wheels or ones off a Mitsubishi, Ford Escape, Probe, Grand Caravan or go aftermarket.

edit: Add Hyundai and Kia to OEM wheels with a 67.1 CB, 5x114.3 BP

Thanks for the heads up! I'm looking at these

Set of 4 steel wheels.
16"x6.5"
5x114.3 bolt pattern
These will fit almost all 5 Lug cars and SUV

Do I need to ask the guy to measure the CB for me? or it should probably fit right?

Gh0stRider 11-11-2010 12:25 PM

in 08 i had no snow tires, my car would not move

in 09 i bought snow tires, it barely snowed...FML

Damn, i want one of those shovels!!

Anjew 11-11-2010 01:01 PM

You're not going to get anything near that if you're going for brand new.

Tires alone would cost 500+ for a good set of 4.

wix 11-11-2010 01:44 PM

Just called Sorat, got quoted $55/per 16" steel rim, 10$ mount/balance per tire.

Going in on Monday :)

Talked to volco about this. Since im putting steelies on my civic. They said it will fit you just have to use a different type of lug nuts.

Any differences between Volco and Sorat?

spoon.ek9 11-11-2010 04:00 PM

seems like there's been a sharp decrease in temperature the last few days. i guess i'll slap the winters on come sunday/monday!

TypeRNammer 11-11-2010 04:04 PM

I still have to order tires. Tire rack ran out of steelies =.= haha

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! I need my chains.

lilaznviper 11-11-2010 04:30 PM

first time getting winter tires and putting them on

should i cover the middle part of the wheel and get hub caps for them? or is it okay to just leave it like that?

fliptuner 11-11-2010 05:59 PM

Just steelies, no centre caps is fine.

wix, whoever is selling those rims should be able to tell you what they're off of. If they came off one of the cars I listed, great, if not measure them first. Volco and sorat are totally different companies. Sorat seems to have better pricing on most stuff, including mount and balance.

TypeRNammer, I'm selling a set of Nissan GTR rims (16x6.5, 5x114.3, 66.1 CB, 40mm offset) for $250firm. PM if interested.

!Aznboi128 11-11-2010 06:04 PM

Do it jason if you get ^ then it'll be a ep3GTR

I managed to pick up a nice pair of winter tires off craigslist, and I have a really good pair of all seasons, do you guys think I'll be alright with that?

It's recommended to have all 4 winter tires the same.

So long as you don't drive dumb you'll be more than ok.

MindBomber 11-11-2010 11:00 PM

I've heard that the better set of tires should always be put on the rear wheels, is that really true?

I think I'm going to run the Hakkapeliitta R tires I picked up on the front wheels, and Nexen Eurowins on the back.
