Winter Tires: time to put them on?

RollingStone 10-24-2010 12:01 AM

It hasn't been a consistent 7 degrees yet. I think I will put mine on first the week of Nov.

keifun 10-24-2010 12:10 AM

still too early...I still want to roll on my Gram Lights before going back to stockers..

Stockers FTL!;)

StylinRed 10-24-2010 12:52 AM

i have a leak in my front drivers tire its gotten pretty bad (need to fill it with air once a week now)

was thinking of just throwing the snowies on and then bring the leakin tire in when i finally have some time

FeistyBearH22a 10-24-2010 01:00 AM

I thought the rule of thumb was to switch to winters after halloween?

!SG 10-24-2010 06:51 AM

!Aznboi128 10-24-2010 07:16 AM

spoon.ek9 10-24-2010 08:11 AM

i might have to put mine on sooner than anticipated since i'm trying to sell off 1 of my 2 sets of steelies heh

ScizzMoney 10-24-2010 08:29 AM

Put them on now, that way if you want to go anywhere like Kelowna or Kamloops or Whistler you won't have to worry about your tires.

so... anybody else agree with this? i usually have my winters on by now but that's only because i lived in edmonton..

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-24-2010 10:58 AM

gonna wait till first snow fall arrives

lol

CorneringArtist 10-24-2010 11:02 AM

I'll wait until like mid-November. I've got a line on some winter wheels and a set of Goodyear Ultra Grip tires through my dealership. I'm not running the winter on shitty ecsta asx's, which I'm probably gonna sell with the rims they're mounted on, and get rota slips for next srping.

First winter tires ftw.

Gonna put them on next week, as I'm trying to sell my wheels also..
General Altimax's are very nice. I've been using them for two seasons (last season barely any snow, but the winter before that was insane!)

cressydrift 10-24-2010 11:33 AM

At least start preparing. Winter tire stock will be dwindling, and tire stores are only going to get busier moving forward.

FN-2199 10-24-2010 11:36 AM

I switch to winters when the 14 day trend is consistently below 10 degrees... which usually doesn't happen until after Halloween :)

optiblue 10-24-2010 11:46 AM

When it reaches 7 degrees or lower all day long, that's when I'm switching :)

rsx 10-24-2010 11:48 AM

anyone know where to get a cheap winter set?

Energy 10-24-2010 11:50 AM

I go by the 7 degrees rule also. I've just been that way ever since.

That's a pretty damn good deal.

Just looked on IIM's site and they have Icebear's for just under $100ea before tax.

lilaznviper 10-24-2010 02:26 PM

+1 for sorat
got 4 tires mounted and balanced with steelies for 649 + tax for 09 corolla LE

on a side note, how do you guys maintain the steelies for winter? i heard people wax them to give them added protection. is this true?
