o/d light flashing

i recall a very few number of times seeing my "o/d off" light flashing on my dash. after a few minutes it'll stop flashing. it very rarely shows up and the last time i've seen it flash was about 2000kms ago or so. should i be worried? if there is a tranny problem, is the case of a flashing o/d light an indication of a serious tranny problem?
thanks

Try pulling your codes for the transmission. If nothing comes up, wait until it happens again and then try checking your tranny codes.

Sometimes flashing O/D lights can mean the trans is in a "limp mode" and it has detected a code. Fluid checks out ok?

What kind of car?
It could be a faulty sensor, solenoid or tranny. Have you checked the fluid level when was the last time it was flushed?

Why do people ask for help and not post what car it's for? A lot of cars are known to have certain issues that have been gone over and resolved. As a general diagnostic, do what's already been recommended but it would be wise to post what the car is and what engine it has.
