well seeing as you're not posting from your mobile, if you look at my profile "here" says Kamloops :p "Here" at Sun Peaks they offer an all day lesson which consists of 1 2 hour lesson in the morning and then another 2 hours in the afternoon
vangruver watch it :p

Its tough to want to learn, I'll admit it. I hate learning something when I know I could be having fun at the same time. Watching other people just go do something that looks so easy is discouraging. Its basic elementary really.

However if you have a group of friends that are at the same skill level as you and feel like they all can improve their skills equally then take 3 of your closest friends and hire an instructor. Either through a mountain or "otherwise" what you'll find is that the 3 of you will then be able to focus on the task at hand, laugh at the same time, and feel less discouraged when something amiss happens.

That could lead you to a super successful season, where you'll then realize that snowboarding/skiing is really worth the effort involved!

Once it becomes somewhat second nature for you, you'll want to go all the time, and then redirect your life around it. Move to whistler, party it up, sleep in your own puke......okay, maybe not that last bit, but its worth it!

Lmao yes bring friends to learn and it may be cheaper... I took the day lesson when I first started and try and push myself a little more each season. I also ride with good "shredders" so they push me a little more without meaning to lol

haha great advice. thanks for that, though it wont apply much since my buddies have been riding since they were kids. i'm sure they'll push me to ride better and harder too. partying at the end would be a nice way to end the night, thats for sure.

man, getting pretty pumped to get on the mountains. cant wait.

Not a good idea. Yes, it might save you from a broken wrist on a lighter fall - but if you fall hard - the wrist guard will break your arm instead. A broken wrist is MUCH easier to heal and hurts a hellova lot less...

Vangruver 11-04-2010 09:41 AM

Or, learning to fall being the main priority when learning the ropes on the slopes (hey I can rhyme)

When I coached, I specifically taught everyone various ways to fall prior to even getting on the chair. Once you know the right way to fall, and yes there is a wrong way, the learning becomes less discouraging and you inevitably wear less protective gear when you ride.

However all that becomes eliminated when the hills turn to sheets of ice. Even with that kind of condition its virtually impossible to fall properly

yes because then your board just slips out from under you :( This happened to me last season and I landed on my tailbone and had to just lay there at least 5-10 mins before I could move again. I thought I had re-injured myself and would be out for the rest of the season... thank god not

^OUCH! Ice is never forgiving :(

Nope, but it does teach you the proper balance points realy quick! If you can muster 2 solid 6 hour days riding ice, then you have the balance for everything!

Yes and no. Depends on how you like to learn. I need to fall to learn, and learn on my own. Never took a lesson, which may explain my lack of progression the last few seasons. For some, what is shown during a lesson may not relate at all and be quite hard to follow and imitate. It may be easier to just 'go for it' and figure out what works for you. I know if I had done a full day lesson my first time up, I would be super frustrated.

I'm quite happy with the level I ride at, any more and I fear I may put myself back into risk of injury like back when I was skiing.

re: wristguards. I stand by that for beginners/novice they are essential. You will likely not be falling hard enough to break your arm, but you will very likely fall hard enough to hurt your wrists if not protected. My biggest issues at first were unexpectedly catching edges so I couldn't prepare or fall properly. Once you get good enough to launch some big airs and get up to a good clip, your risk of catching a surprise edge is low and you know how to confidently fall properly, then you can leave the wrist guards at home because then they do become a BIT more of a liability.

I fall all the time, both intentionally and accidentally. And I've been riding for 22 years.

Am I a noob?

Last nights freezing level was pretty low!

The snow fell, but can't guarantee if it will last?!

Emone, haven't heard of any, but there is another huge one this weekend.

No snowboards or skiis, but ill get the details and break it down later

12-14 of us for 6days 5 nights. 129 a head?

Jassanova 11-08-2010 06:45 PM

Got my dual mountain Big White - Silverstar ski pass for the season.. totally stoked!!

Just started skiing last year with the wife, we were able to do some easy blues by the end of the seasons... hoping to do an "easy" black this year.

Might have to hit up Sun Peaks when it opens... Big White's not opening until Dec 5th this year :(
