BOSS mustang 302 with 2 keys for 2 diff tunes

So its pretty neat

2 keys, 2 engine profiles
one for street driving
one for track use

from all the car companies, ford is really steppin it up, i wonder how come no other company have marketed this... (or i just have been living under a rock)

just think of the possibilities, each family member have a unique key so when they get into the car, the car's more in tune with the individual driving style..

As if the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 wasn't tempting enough with 440 horsepower and killer good looks, Ford is throwing in a few extra goodies to make it that much more desirable.

2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 TracKeyFirst off, the Blue Oval announced today that owners of the new Boss 302 will receive a dual set of keys, one of which, 'TracKey,' activates a secondary PCM race tune that alters nearly 200 engine management parameters for the 5.0-liter V8. "From an engine management standpoint, we've done just about everything possible to give TracKey users a full race car experience," says Jeff Seaman, Mustang powertrain engineer. "It's not for use on the street – for example, the deceleration is set up to preserve the brakes, and the throttle response is very aggressive. A skilled driver on a closed course will really appreciate the benefits." The TracKey also features a two-stage launch control feature similar to the one on the Cobra Jet Mustang that can be controlled via buttons on the steering wheel.

Not wanting all of that new technology to go to waste, Ford has also announced that it will be offering customers a complimentary track day to test out their new ride. Offered through Team Mustang and Ford Racing, Boss 302 owners will be treated to driving instruction and track time at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. Owners will need to book their own travel arrangements, but once there, everything is free of charge.

With the way things are shaping up for the Boss, we're already pondering second mortgages and/or raiding our children's college funds for one of the coolest pony cars ever. If you're good at resisting such temptations, hit the jump and read all of the details in the press releases from Ford.

because you can hide the track key from your teenage soon, you can't hide the temptation button that say track/sport

shenmecar 11-10-2010 10:58 PM

interesting concept.................

ilvtofu 11-10-2010 10:59 PM

For your teenage son you want ford's speed limiting ignition key from the volvo days, then again I wouldn't let my teenage son drive my boss mustang..

does it matter? if you buy your teenage kid a BOSS Mustang, somethings bound to happen....

im glad they came back with 5.L not the 4.6L crap at the turn of the century.

dhari 11-11-2010 08:02 AM

thats a pretty cool concept. a lot of manufacturers should try this out.

agreed. the 4.6 was a major fail. but now the 5.0 has returned in a badder form.

Do explain, i've never heard of this.

threezero 11-11-2010 11:04 AM

^^ i'm guessing it like valet mode with aftermark alarms ala compustar. can't go above a certain speed. and rev up to a certain rpm

Seems some of the lucky ass kids that live in Metro Vancouver don't have parents that care... thus all the other high power luxury vehicles sporting an "N" on the back of them.

The kids don't give a shit.. their parents will just buy them another one. There is no sense of responsibility - only entitlement.

I wonder how long til one of these gets smashed up at high speed racing another car down Granville during rush hour..?

I rather have a button somewhere in the interiorfor whenever I want a "sport mode" instead of having several keys. This key thing is just making the same thing just over redundant.

sick car

seakrait 11-11-2010 11:18 AM

yeah, my teenage kid would NOT be allowed to drive my BOSS 302. that's for sure. i'd prefer the button myself. this is just a bit gimmicky.

i still love ford though.

donjalapeno 11-11-2010 11:23 AM

ford is stepping it up, but we cant tell how long the technologies and new concepts (myford etc) last until they break down.

several? are you half retarded or something? theres 2 keys, one you use everyday then one for the track. wow thats SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. MY OH MY WHAT WILL I EVER DO WITH MYSELF.

Teh Doucher 11-11-2010 11:44 AM

also, because its from ford, it will get hated on. if it was nissan adding this to the GTR or Honda adding it to something it would be hailed as the GREATEST INVENTION OF MAN KIND.

MindBomber 11-11-2010 12:03 PM

The track key, street key is a bit odd. The reason why Ford is the first one to do this is, because BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes realize a button is more logical.

But, a key that limited performance that would be a great idea! If I had a high performance car, I'd definitely want a way to prevent valets and mechanics from abusing it.

Great68 11-11-2010 02:16 PM

It's no different than the Veyron's "Top Speed Key".

But I guess that's not gimmicky because it's a million+ dollar car...

This car is sick. I almost want one more than an original Boss 302.

bcedhk 11-11-2010 02:23 PM

whats next for ford? putting their stupid combo code looking buttons inside to activate traction control off?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2433/...0db78720_o.jpg

what was ford thinking? almost all higher end cars are going keyless, and ford decides it would be "modern" to add 1 more key.

$_$ 11-11-2010 02:25 PM

LOL...

i just thought of something.

What if your driving along, and you want to switch to track mode? What than? You pull over, turn off car, and put in the other key?

twitchyzero 11-11-2010 02:28 PM

^ that's what i was thinking
it's stupid..a button is perfectly fine. If you are scared of your teenage kids driving your car...hide your keys.

vitaminG 11-11-2010 03:03 PM

honda should have a special key to activate VTEC
