Yes YVR has them now, went to Ottawa last week, and chose the scanner over a physical pat down.

Ulic Qel-Droma 11-14-2010 03:49 AM

i saw one on my way to asia, but i thought they only used it on ppl going to the USA and even then you get to choose to get pat down. isnt it?

who has real solid facts on this? anyone work at YVR?

ppl keep telling me it's only for TO USA.

City-bear 11-17-2010 05:29 AM

i got scanned on my way to taipei.

it is random who they pick

Nicotine 11-17-2010 10:26 AM

randomm..... yes

sonick 11-17-2010 11:02 AM

Apparently they have to touch your junk when you go for the pat-down. I wonder if there are hot female TSA agents.

Or start goin like "oh yea, that's it" when they get there.

ImportXxX 11-17-2010 12:10 PM

i got pat down in vegas yesterday after the full body scanner cus i left my passport in back my pocket...but just on the legs..none in the junk..that would of been very uncomfortable cus it was a dude

dave123 11-23-2010 12:14 PM

I cant believe people in the states are protesting body scans and pat-downs. Its better then having some terrorist on your plane blow it up.

I was on a flight to London in September and there were these two middle-eastern dudes (sorry I dont mean to racial profile) that went to the washroom for a freaking long time. One guy was in there for like 15 minutes and the other guy stood by the door the whole time (his back was to the door and to me it looked like he was keeping guard). I was going holy sh*t and was thinking I should tell a stewardess.

This is why people in the states are pissed off about the Full body scans and pat downs. I'm travelling with my kids tomorrow and I am not looking forward to deal with airport security.

DragonChi 11-24-2010 07:51 PM

people who give up their freedom for security deserve none...

I'd rather get a pat down then scanned, you get an unpleasant dose of x-rays through he scanner (enough for cancer). The TSA dude better massage my nuts if he's going to pat me down. Make it as unpleasant for him as it's going to be for me.

Conan O'Brien Sex Video 11-25-2010 09:30 AM

when i watch news clips on the pat downs, they look more like rub downs. i travel on saturday so i'll see what happens at yvr.

THIS is my concern. I can live with being scanned or patted down but I don't want anyone laying a hand on my 10 year old.

You make it sound like that is true.

""While the dose would be safe if it were distributed throughout the volume of the entire body, the dose to the skin may be dangerously high," they wrote."

yeah, I would rather not risk it, but being a smoker, my creditability goes down the tube.

I should also add that everyones different, and who knows what they'll do. They could be perfectly safe, but personally I wouldn't want to go through a scanner.

Conan O'Brien Sex Video 11-26-2010 07:03 AM

I don't want to go through the scanner. I'm sure I'm exposed to enough negative rays already without even choosing to.

I'm also thinking... when they take your xrays at the dentist, they are only aiming it at your cheek, yet they give you this heavy sheet to protect the rest of your body.

TheNewGirl 11-26-2010 07:33 AM

Well you're only getting dentist Xrays once every couple of years. Also thanks to digital imaging (which dentists adopted earlier than anyone else) the need for re shoots is greatly reduced and exposure is greatly limited. So dental xrays aren't so bad at all. The sheet is just for extra protection but also your reproductive organs are particularly sensitive to radiation so they always try and protect the torso when they can.

Even these full body scans aren't that bad if you only were exposed to one in your life. It's repeated exposure for frequent travelers which is the real risk or exposure for people who have other risk factors (mostly people who already have exposure though occupational sources or who live close to power lines and crap).

BUT even with out the safety issues, the civil rights side of my brain is disgusted by this when ALL studies have shown this doesn't make us any safer.

I work at YVR. they ask you if you want to use the body scanner or not if you beep and don't want to be wanded down. going through security, i've only seen it going to the USA. For international or canada departures i haven't seen any

AllenPetersen 11-27-2010 02:31 AM

There is so much wrong with the TSA, body scanners and the TSA's enhanced pat down.

If you dont want to do the body scanner you have to say "opt out" Then, the TSA agent will holler to other TSA agents that "WE HAVE AN OPT OUT" At that point, you get the guy with the blue gloves that puts his hands down your pants to look for terrorist bombs.... give me a break. Your sitting ducks then when someone really has a bomb and wants to blow shit up.

The underwear bomber is a BS excuse to make everyone believe that we need the stupid scanners which are un constitutional and not safe for your health and which can hold your scan info as a bio scan for home land.

The underwear bomber was actually escorted by CIA in Amsterdam. They has the scanner at that airport and he was escorted by a CIA around any physical check or going through the scanner. Its all a joke.

Proof the underwear bomber wouldn't have been stopped by scanners:
http://www.infowars.com/body-scanner...erwear-bomber/

The guy that "Michael Chertoff" that helped congress make the TSA use the scanners now makes money off it. Millions. Fallow the money!!!!

link to prove:
http://www.infowars.com/chertoff-lin...-manufacturer/

Perverts can look at you junk. If I were a pervert, i would work for the TSA so i can view your junk and touch your genitals.
http://www.infowars.com/airport-work...-body-scanner/

http://www.infowars.com/heathrow-wor...canner-misuse/

If I was out in public and grab your GF's ass i can get 5-10 years for sexual harassment charges. But I can go work for the TSA, and do it all day long!? Why is it that when you get to the air port your democratic rights are tossed out the window??? Your tax money pays those guys. If i worked for the TSA I would stand up and say "NO, I am not touching those people or scanning people without and protection for them or myself.

There are a million reasons not to go through those things and to get right in the TSA agent face when they do their pat down. They want you to think that giving you nut and titty grabs and giving you an x ray will stop terrorists... poffff. Look outside the airport, I can drive my truck on the runway at several airports and blow up whatever plane I want.

they are trying to put those scanners in all public places in the US now. Court houses, hospitals, Football games. CRAZy!

hal0g0dv2 11-27-2010 06:48 PM

they have a like a booth thingy for pat downs at yvr, i was there Thursday night and never had to do any of that.

Just returned home last week from a trip to HongKong... Great 2 weeks of 24degrees compare to negative temperatures here. lol...

When I left yvr for international flights, I started at Gate D, approached a CBSA agent and I had to stand on a steel plate with 2 foot prints lit in green LED, after a few seconds I was told I passed.
(I still dont even know what that test was for.) Next, I had to put all my valuables and travelling bag in the x-ray scannner, after I was led into the full body scanner where you raise both arms and scanned. Took only 15 seconds. I passed, came out of the x-ray tube and retrieve my belongings.
Thats all. Ready to go duty free shopping and a few drinks at milestones in the backgate.

Hope that helps.
