Car models are hard to find these days, except for the cheesy, level one or two ones made for 6 year olds. BTW, if you're looking for those for your kids, go to Michaels and use their 40 -50% off coupons. Model building used to be so popular when I was a kid. Not anymore. Is it because kids nowadays are dumb and can't follow simple directions? I believe it is a good learning tool for little kids. It's like kids who play with lego and other building toys - grow up to be inquisitive and creative. Dumb kids just sit in front of TV picking their nose.

Back to the models. I would look up models on the Internet. When you find what you like, go to a local hobby shop and have them bring it in. You'd be pleasantly surprised at how decent the cost is.

Plastic models and parts associated with them are duty free!

J Hobby is apparently moving and having a sale. Started in mid February, LOL. Anyone know if they have indeed moved by now?

http://jhobby.com/

It's just about May and nothing is updated on their website. Perhaps like a lot of hobby stores, they have gone tits up.

Edit: Just called them. The sale is still on till next week. I guess they are moving afterall.....

Yeah, the guy did mention about the new place. He's still at the old place for a little while longer. I'm only into WWII static models, so it's not my kind of place.

Damn, I'm liking Go Go Hobbies in Coquitlam. Absolute cheapest place for Tamiya paints and products. I ordered yet another 1/350 scale Tamiya IJN heavy cruiser from them. Cheaper than every on-line dealer on the Internet. I don't know if I'm getting these prices because I shop there all the time, but 10% off already ridiculously low prices on paints and accessories.

I bought a can of TS spray paint and it is like 3 bucks cheaper than every other shop out there 4 bucks cheaper than Imperial Hobbies, LOL. When you go through paints like I do, the savings are huge.

BTW, Tamiya paints are getting harder and harder to get. Stupid labeling issues again. Not being able to import the shit in. I think distributors are having hard time as well. My most used paint, IJN Gray Kure Arsenal was out of stock at Go Go Hobbies. Went to Toys Planet in Crystal Mall, the next cheapest place to get Tamiya paints, and they were out of TS-66. Damned if I'm going Gunze paints or *gasp* Testors. Actually, Gunze paints aren't that bad. They don't have spray paints in the colours I want.

It's worth the trip, my friend. Very knowledgeable staff. You will be very pleased with their prices.

Asian dude, Cam, is the owner. The customers there seem to trust the guy a lot. Always giving advice and very patient.

They are not open on Monday, but open Tuesday through Sunday.

I dont want to start another thread for general model kit-building so I'll bump this instead.

After reading the instruction pamphlet for the Aristo, it appears that it not only has adjustable height but also camber angle. NICE

I go to central hobbies for railway stuff. I have an HO scale train going around a friends kitchen, but the assholes took it down awhile back since it was gathering dust. Took me 3 weeks and 160$ to build the layout alone!

I'd like to get back into car model building as I have all the supplies but no models(Except for a 1988 dodge daytona. Don 't even know why they made a model for that piece of crap)

Yeah, I used to be into car models, but moved onto WWII German tanks. Now I'm into IJN models. I did have a whole fleet of 1/700 waterline scale models, but this time, it's 1/350 scale.

SO JELLY. I spy SSR's, lowdown Corona, racing Levins... Where did you pick most of your kits at?

BTW, does the #73 kit actually have an engine? I've seen a few variations of it but my Japanese is rusty so I dont actually know for sure. And any closer up pics of the bottom right corner one?

Yah it does have an engine, by Aoshima. And your request for the bottom right (by fujimi).

[EDIT] I got most of mine from Japan when I go back. I haven't bought in a while though, since it's hard to find hobby shops lately. Seems like it's all online/auctions.

Aoshima has 3 kits w/ actual N2 fenders. I've been debating for a long time to get it or not, but seems to spend money else where

Badass, I might have to ebay em. lol

Anyway I bought my kits and parts from HK, they were all approx $14 or less. Such good selection there...I regret not getting a shakotan Kenmeri Skyline and kouki S13 hatch, because I was feeling guilty about buying 3 kits already. Those ones were about $20 each though. Still killer deals..

Oh well. I have enough kits to last me long enough til the next trip. lololol

I got most of mine from HobbyLink Japan and other website in Japan(closed
down after earthquake). They have more selections then the local shops.
I finished this one a couple years ago.

Just wondering if any of you guys are members of the Vancouver IPMS.

They are putting on a swap and shop event on the 8th of October. Lots of great deals at that one. People rent tables and sell all their surplus stuff. Vendors are there, too, flogging old models and whatnot. The display of models at the show is impressive. Best of show and stuff like that. I see some of that stuff on display and I get inspired and discouraged all at the same time.

Fall Show

Damn. Even has the brake lines in there!

Also, picked these "kero-pla" kits along with the cars and parts. I guess theyre similar to gundam but theyre more like parodies of those kits using characters from the Keroro cartoon. For those who havent watched it yet, the green one is supposed to invade and take over Earth but spends his time building models instead...lol

Here's a better pic of the bottom one after built. The other 2 arent as dramatic.
